Tru by Hilton Rapid City Rushmore

The staff were nice enough, and USB charging connections in all the outlets were handy. Still, I wouldn't stay here again. I couldn't get any rest over two nights because the hard floors seemed to carry constant stomping from the room above. The hotel aims for a modern feel, but those floors made it not relaxing at all. Breakfast was bland and mediocre, and the pancake maker was out of order during my trip. Their computer system also seems to have repeat issues: check-in took over 20 minutes while it failed to make keys, and they had no emergency premade keys for my room. They had to call for help and reset the whole system again.

We've come back many times and usually have a good stay. The breakfast has been enjoyable, and the staff are friendly. This visit, though, the halls and room weren't as clean as they normally are.

Even on a busy fall weekend in Rapid City, this was at the lower end of the available prices, though we still paid a lot because rooms were scarce. The hotel has been renewed throughout and was very clean. The gentleman at the front desk had no nametag, but he was personable and accommodating. Great customer service.

The rooms are really small, and we won't stay at a Tru again. It shares a building with Hampton Inn, though it's easy enough to tell them apart. The bed frame stuck out beyond the mattress, so we kept banging our shins while squeezing between it and the so-called desk. Basic things like ice buckets were missing. The ice machine opening wouldn't fit a cooler, only an ice bucket. The soap and lotion bottles needed both hands working to squeeze the middle. Since I have a broken shoulder, my wife had to get soap for me every time.
