Holiday Inn Express Richmond by IHG

The nearly $200 nightly rate made the lack of notice about the pool especially frustrating. I booked after a nine-hour drive with my two-year-old, and chose this location partly because the pool would let her unwind and burn off energy. We only discovered it was “out of order” after walking down to use it. No one mentioned the closure when we booked or checked in. An amenity closure like that should be disclosed ahead of time and reflected in the price. With no other option, we had to put her back in the car and drive somewhere else so she could decompress. Very disappointing and inconvenient.

The coffee and muffins were great, but breakfast needs work. The eggs were cold, the potatoes were undercooked and cold inside, and the sausage gravy looked like it had been sitting out a long time, dried around the edges. The serving dishes also didn’t open or close properly.

I always stay at this hotel when I visit Richmond, Indiana. Last time, the room wasn’t very clean, so I wrote down what was wrong and took the list to the front desk. The manager went above and beyond to put everything right. She was absolutely great, and I highly recommend staying here.

The rooms are new, the sheets were soft, and the bed was good, but the highway noise was quite loud. My shower hadn’t been cleaned, with shave stubble left on the walls. I also marked down the location because the entrance was hard to spot. I drove up to Cracker Barrel, then came back and found it wedged between other hotels. Once you find it, it’s right by the highway and quick to get on and off.
