Hotel Mac

The restaurant was terrific, and housekeeping was great. I'd stay here again, though there were a couple of things that kept the visit from being great. I was disappointed by the early check-in policy. We came from out of town for a relative's graduation and wanted an hour to freshen up and change. They confirmed our room hadn't been occupied the previous night, but said early check-in would cost $50. When I asked if that applied for just one hour, the staff member got defensive and said the 3 p.m. check-in time was an hour earlier than at most hotels nationally. That didn't address our situation and made for a bad start. Our room was in the carriage house, close to the train tracks. Several trains woke me multiple times each night. Ear plugs were provided, presumably for that reason, but I didn't use them. I wish we'd been told about the tracks and overnight trains when we booked.

It's listed as a public property, but feels very private, almost like Airbnb. The check-in staff keeps reminding me of my mother, if you can imagine that.

This was an all-around nightmare. There was no front desk or hotel staff onsite, and I didn't feel safe. The address they gave wasn't where the rooms actually were. They provided the real address on check-in day, and it was on a sketchy street beside the train tracks, with homeless people around. I arrived alone at night and saw a man in a ski mask staring at me while I gathered my things. Terrified, I went to their restaurant in tears. A host got into my car and drove with me to the other building to escort me in. It was totally uncomfortable, but very kind of him to help. The parking lot was a lie, and the gate code they gave me didn't work. Trains went by outside the window all night, so it was extremely loud. The walls were dirty, dust was in the vents, and the phone and refrigerator didn't work. They claim to be pet friendly, but charged a $150 cleaning fee after the fact. They didn't tell me about it until I was locked into the reservation. The policy was buried at the bottom of an email and wasn't mentioned during booking. My dog is a service dog who left no trace, and they're illegally trying to charge me for him being there. Now I have to take legal action. The receptionist finds joy in being an awful human being. This place seems to profit through a gotcha business model.

Kimmy and I had a client meeting in Point Richmond and stayed overnight. Hotel mac put us in a room in the carriage section, with a full kitchen, cute patio, and a bathroom with a walk-in shower. There was plenty of parking, and the whole town was within walking distance. Highly recommend for you and your furry friend.
