Super 8 Richmond

The tub problem still hasn't been fixed in any of the rooms. You end up showering with water sitting over your ankles because the tub won't drain. The last two times we stayed, the room smelled musty and moldy, and staff said the rooms had flooded. My allergies flared up. We found a nicer place for a better price, and several people in our group stayed elsewhere this year too. Rates here also went up by $30 for the weekend of our event, because of the event and all the people it brings to Richmond. I hope our event moves towns soon. That's price gouging. Look elsewhere.

The whole building needs serious upkeep, from the uncut grass to the paint, carpets, doors, and locks. Inside, our non-smoking room smelled of smoke, the cheap mattress was uncomfortable, the towels had holes, and there were bugs in the bedroom. We were warned that hot water could take 15 minutes to reach our room from the far end of the building, and it did. I’ve stayed at plenty of Super 8s without trouble, but this was easily my worst hotel or motel experience. I wish I’d checked the reviews first. I’ve never felt driven to write a hotel review before, but this place is awful. I wouldn’t stay again even on a bet. I honestly don’t know how state or county inspectors let it remain open.

The desk clerk took our card without telling us the price or giving us a receipt. We were crossing the country and stopped on impulse, which was a bad call. The room was musty and smelled of mold, with wallpaper peeling off, a bathroom door frame rusted through, water stains everywhere, and lamp wires frayed down to the bare wire. The TV looked like it was from the early 90s and the picture was fuzzy. There was no smoke alarm, and the AC was useless. I don’t know how places like this stay open. Drive farther and pay for somewhere else; the extra money will be worth it.

There wasn’t a refrigerator or microwave, and the room and rug were so dirty I didn’t want to be barefoot. The bed felt filthy, and the room smelled terrible from the moment I walked in. I couldn’t sleep for much of the night because the sheets made my skin itch. I worried there might be bed bugs, but I didn’t see any and didn’t want to investigate, so I can’t say that there were. I hadn’t read reviews before staying, so it wasn’t paranoia from something I’d read. I’d give this zero stars if I could. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.
