There was a chair in the room, though we didn't dare sit in it. The bathroom had no lights or doors, and its sink leaked onto the floor. Dead bugs were all over, and the entry door had clearly been kicked in before. One drawer held a soiled rag; another had someone else's clothes and muddy work boots. To top it off, we found an empty packet of male enhancement pills and a mystery bag we weren't brave enough to open. Even our dog was disgusted, so we left right away.

I found roaches behind the mini fridge almost as soon as I entered room #136, which I had reserved through expedia. When I shifted the fridge a little to look, they scattered everywhere, and one began climbing the wall. It looked infested. I'm allergic to roaches, as my allergist has confirmed, and find them disgusting. I've slept in my car before when a room had them, so I filmed this one before checking out because I expected to cancel and didn't want expedia to push back. I'd stayed at this hotel before without trouble, but those were the nicer rooms near the front. It seems that the longer you stay, the owner puts you farther back, where the rooms aren't as nice. This room's door had peeling paint and large gaps around it that let you see outside when it was shut. The old, filthy AC didn't seem to cool properly either. If you stay, make sure the owner puts you in a front room, nowhere around back.

Ed at the desk was a friendly, easygoing guy who got me checked in and suggested a few places to eat. The room looked and smelled clean when I opened the door. I had fresh towels by the bathroom sink, a comfortable bed with plenty of pillows, and a large desk for paperwork. I'd never stayed at a Red Roof Inn before, or at least don't remember doing so, and was pleasantly surprised. I was in town for work and my usual Jackson hotels were booked, likely because of Jackson State's homecoming game that weekend. I knew nothing about this place beyond Google reviews when I booked three nights. The location is close to the interstate and several restaurants. There were lots of people hanging out in the parking lot Friday and Saturday, probably there for the game, but nothing was disturbed and they weren't very loud, so it wasn't really a complaint. I'd stay here again and recommend it.

Mr. Ed at the front desk was very nice and made check-in quick. I stayed four days for work in this quiet area. The water got nice and hot and the rooms were cleaned every day. Our door wouldn't stay shut, but the owner fixed it. The price was affordable.

My kids and I spent over a month here, and it felt safe and laid back, with quiet nights. The beds were comfortable, housekeeping came daily, and we had no trouble with guests or staff. Most of the other guests seemed to be contractors and construction workers passing through. Sometimes on a Saturday people would have music on or use the grill, which I can understand and appreciate. The mature woman who runs housekeeping is a Queen. Fair price for a reasonable stay. Bless up ☝🏽
