Elizabethan Inn

Our bed and pillows were comfortable, there wasn’t a bad smell beyond the old wood, and the Inn was well lit and felt safe at night, even though our room was at the back. The front desk customer service was great. There’s a nice lot for walking your pup, and noise was moderate. The neighborhood behind the fence could get rowdy, but it quieted down by bedtime. All the pools were closed during our visit. We had a pet, and it seems those rooms are the old ones. The room phone looked disgusting, mold was growing on the AC, and the curtain was torn from its seam and had mold too. The shower pressure was slow, we killed three moths in the room, and the microwave was rusted, so we didn’t use it or the coffee maker. The doors were all dinged up. For nearly $300 for 2 nights, I expected more. I think the mixed reviews for the Elizabethan Inn may come down to whether you get a renovated room like the website photos or an older one. It feels unfair for guests paying the same rate to end up with such different rooms. Renovating all of them might help close that gap.

During our July 3-5 stay, the staff moved us out of a king room under the gym and into a handicap room since the other rooms were booked. It was clean, with a big bathroom, and the maids were nice. My bf liked the gym and sauna, though we didn’t use the pool. The main issue was not having enough outlets for our phones. The plug under the AC unit didn’t work, so we had to unplug the microwave. Otherwise, a very nice stay. We came back over the weekend and had a very clean room with a comfy bed. They’d fixed the outlet problem by putting a power strip in the room. Sadly, the pools weren’t open, and we’d been looking forward to using one.

The receptionists were both welcoming and professional, and the local food options are close by. Things tend to shut around 9pm, but there are plenty of coffee shops, bars, gas stations, and common restaurants. The receptionist’s recommendation of Stripers for dinner was fantastic, and she also steered us away from another bar that wasn’t so great. She clearly knows the area. Be careful pulling out of the parking lot, since a poorly placed plant blocks the view to the left. The room was on the first floor facing the lot, and it needed repairs. Dead bugs lined almost an entire wall, there were food remnants from the previous guest under the bed and couch, and there was a musty smell like I’ve noticed at a few Red Roof Inns. We also saw leakage on the bathroom sink wall and smelled something bad by the bed between it and the bathroom wall. At $400 for a 2 night stay, it didn’t feel worth it. The TV had some static on cable channels too. Those aren’t the biggest issues, but they’re worth mentioning.

The front desk woman was so friendly, the kind of friendly where I thought she might invite us over for dinner. Southern hospitality is real. The rooms are dated and could use some sprucing up, but they were clean, as were the beds and linens. The shower got hot and, as far as I could tell, everything worked. Take this with a grain of salt, but for $50 a night for a couple of duck hunters, it can’t be beat. Would the rich and famous vacation there? Hard no. I’d definitely stay again.
