Staybridge Suites Rochester - Mayo Clinic Area by IHG

Ms. Sharon, who manages the kitchen staff, is a friendly face and helps make the service good. The whole staff were fantastic, and the shuttle was a big help. We also loved sitting by the beautiful lobby fireplace to watch TV or read. It gave us a large space outside our suite to connect with other people staying for longer treatments. We stayed for over two weeks while I recovered from Mayo Clinic surgery. We’ll definitely stay at Staybridge again. Thank you to the whole staff!

For anyone driving into town for the first time, the signage and technology here can be confusing. There’s a large sign with an arrow pointing right to the underground garage entrance that says “Hotel registration.” Don’t go there first: you need a room key and must pay $20 for garage access. Registration parking is actually to the left of the sign, opposite the arrow, beside the building entrance. I saw someone else confused and had to back out of the single-lane entrance. Remember which garage floor you parked on, too. The lobby is on floor 2, and we went to -1 when we needed floor 0. When checking out remotely through the TV, don’t leave your room keys in the room. Keep them until you’re out of the garage, where there’s a drop box at the exit, like the ticket slot. The elevators are behind locked doors that open either by waving your hand or using the room key, depending on the time of day. My mother and I couldn’t get the hand wave to work, perhaps we were too close, and there was no sign or person to show us the right distance. After we checked out, we went to the wrong garage floor and couldn’t get through the locked doors to the elevator. We’d left our keys in the room, and our hand waves still didn’t work. We walked up the ramp to find our car because we couldn’t find stairs, and thankfully the garage opened so we could leave. There’s a key drop box near the exit. I was also unable to get help promptly by phone. The front desk put me on hold for 10 minutes before I could even say “Help,” repeatedly put me back on hold before I could get a word out, and even hung up on me. When I finally spoke with them in person, they were defensive and acted like I was foolish for not knowing a procedure that nobody had explained at check-in. They said they were busy serving the line of people in person. The facility is new and the rooms are nice, but I wouldn’t recommend this as a first-time stay for stressed or elderly Mayo patients driving into town. During my mom’s cancer appointment, this caused unnecessary stress and showed a lack of empathy.

The stay was nice, but the breakfast arrangement was confusing. Free breakfast was advertised, yet at check-in the man gave me a ticket for one breakfast for my three-day stay. When I asked, he gave me one more, but said no when I asked whether I should have three. The food wasn’t anything special either. On the second morning I waited more than 20 minutes while the hostess chatted with another employee. I went to the front desk, and the woman there said breakfast was being served and went to tell the hostess to help me. I almost missed my shuttle to the Mayo Clinic appointment. There was also a group of very noisy kids at the hotel, apparently there for some kind of competition. Their unruly behavior wasn’t the hotel’s fault, but the hotel didn’t do anything about it. They were yelling up and down the hall past 10:30 at night.

Ms. Sharon noticed my suggestion about adding more gluten-free choices and labels at breakfast. With my allergies, I hadn't felt safe eating from the buffet, so she brought me to the restaurant and arranged a breakfast I could eat at no charge. I'm used to missing out because of my allergies, and her kindness and accommodation meant a lot. The room was comfortable, and the staff have been very helpful.
