Affordable Suites Rocky Mount

I’ve been in Rocky Mount for work twice this past month, and Lisa was a wonderful host. She went out of her way to make my special arrangements work.

The problems with the service and the lack of proper oversight pushed us to check out early. Tina was quick to say we wouldn’t get a refund for the unused night, and the corporate office hasn’t responded either. The property feels like a low-grade trailer park now, with stray dogs, rundown rooms, and people smoking heavily. I wouldn’t recommend staying here. The carpets are worn and stained, and the walls need paint. Tina, the live-on-site desk clerk and manager, had a nasty attitude whenever we asked for help. An aggressive stray dog blocked us from getting out of our car, and she was rude and openly irritated when we called. We ended up calling Rocky Mount police, who sent an officer so we could get to our room. The next day our key card lost its magnetic charge. Tina seemed bothered when I called, but met my guest to rekey it. She immediately complained and said she should charge $25, claiming the guest must have done something to the card.

Darren at the front desk made booking easy and was pleasant in person. The other guests were friendly and quiet, and the area was well lit. Our room had a clean bathroom with nice towels, a sitting area with a TV, and a separate bedroom with another TV. The bed was comfortable, the sheets were clean, and the comforter looked brand new. We also had a full-size fridge, microwave, dishes, and silverware. We stayed one night while traveling north and had a great time.

For roughly $70 a night on a weeklong stay, this felt like a very good value, and the staff were nice. The housekeeping staff were lovely, too. My main frustration was the room keys. They failed twice during the week, once when it was cold and rainy and we were locked out after the office had closed at 5 p.m. on a weekday. The office is also closed Sundays. No one answered the emergency number at first, and I waited an hour after leaving a message. My husband eventually reached someone, who came right away. After that, we hesitated to leave the room, especially on the day we had to catch a train. The room surprised me with how spacious it was. There was a small living room and kitchen area with a refrigerator, sink, oven, stove, microwave, coffee maker, some coffee, and dish soap. We cooked a little, so I bought kitchen towels. There was a small amount of paper towel already there. A hallway led to a good-sized bathroom, then a large bedroom with a dresser, closet and hangers, and one nightstand. There was also an ironing board. Our couch didn’t pull out, though rooms with pullout couches are available. Plenty of outlets, good lighting, and a nice supply of good-quality towels were appreciated. Everything was in decent condition, though some things hadn’t been cleaned very well. At that price, I could overlook it. We didn’t see housekeeping again for a few days after the first day. I didn’t need daily service, but it would have helped to know the schedule. Maybe it was in the paperwork, but I didn’t get to read it before my husband signed and returned the documents. Compared with a pricier motel like Comfort Inn, I’d have rated the stay two or three stars. The value and friendly staff made a difference.
