The airport shuttle drivers I met were friendly, and having a shuttle available was a plus. Customer service was pretty good too. Beds were comfortable, and breakfast was decent, though the waffle maker got ruined when someone put peanut butter in it. With so many guests making a mess and a loud ruckus, the stay felt less inviting and comfortable, almost like a cheap, lower-quality place. To be fair, that noise and mess weren’t necessarily the hotel’s doing. The photos are very deceiving, and I wouldn’t recommend the hotel or come back. My room wasn’t spacious, and the microwave and mini fridge were oddly placed right next to the head of the bed. The door didn’t close properly unless I pushed it firmly to make sure it locked. The elevator area smelled strongly of marijuana in the evening. There’s no restaurant on site, just a few snacks, drinks, and frozen meals for sale at the front desk. The cons outweigh the pros.

The rooms were okay clean, though they could have used more attention to detail. As a Diamond member, I usually receive the member perks, but I got none here. They tried to charge for late checkout; after I refused and said I was a Diamond member, it was eventually granted following 10 back-and-forth text messages with someone. They also told me I’d have to pay an early check-in fee, something I’ve never had to do as a Diamond member when a room was available. Eventually, they gave me a room. Customer service was out the window here, and the stay definitely didn’t live up to Hilton status. Stay at your own risk.

My favorite part was the shower: it was hot, had firm pressure, and was spotless. The room was spotless too, and the bathroom was pretty darn nice. Hallways, elevator, and common areas were all fine. The property looks new and is fairly new. The free breakfast had standard options, nicely presented. The exercise room was clean and nice, but a little small.

The lobby stays warm even when the weather is very cold, and having coffee, tea, and hot water available 24 hours was wonderful. Breakfast was great, with a variety of choices. Staying at Hampton Inn&Suites DTW was a pleasant surprise. Everything felt easy, with no major hassles, and the room was clean and had all the basics I needed to settle in.

Yolanda made a rough night feel much less stressful. I got in very late after a serious airport delay, and she was welcoming and made me feel safe. Booking a room here had been easy, and the room itself was clean and updated. Thanks, Yolanda, for being such a bright spot.
