The hotel's main advantage is how close it is to the airport. We rented three rooms for five days, and on the first day one room had been left open and uncleaned. When I went downstairs to report the mistake, staff blamed us for dirtying it. We had to prove we hadn't even been in the room, and we'd been checked in for less than five minutes. They also require a $100 cash deposit per room. If you take the breakfast to go, they charge an extra $15 per plate to your room or deduct it from your deposit. The lot has potholes and poor lighting, and the walls are so thin there's no privacy. You can hear light conversations from next door or across the hall. The place was nasty and unkempt, and the night management's attitude matched the atmosphere. This isn't a place I'd bring my family.
I'm only staying two nights and used my two free nights, but it looks like I've been charged extra anyway. I know hotels take a $50 deposit that's supposed to come back. Still, I was charged $25 and nobody could explain what for. Today, May 3, I found another $8 charge and a new $29 charge, and the front desk couldn't tell me why. I haven't used my card at this place. I suspect someone at the front desk may be adding charges to my account without my knowledge, though I don't know for sure and don't think I can be the only one. If I find out an employee tampered with my card, I'll take legal action. If you stay at navelodge by Wyndham Romulus Detroit Airport, check your bank account daily because you might be overcharged too. There's also a piece of the ceiling fixture coming down. This is one of the worst hotels I've stayed in.
It's a small, nice hotel close to the airport, with friendly staff and good airport bus service. The price was good compared with downtown Detroit, and it was easy to get in quickly. Breakfast was included and good, and the clean rooms had really comfortable beds. Hallway noise was noticeable when people walked past, but I could still sleep well.
My fiance and I came to get some time alone away from everything. The bed was really comfortable, the room was decent, and breakfast was okay. The orange juice was delicious, though the cereal was a bit stale and so was the bread. I didn't like being right by the back door, since we could hear it opening every 15-20 minutes.
The room floors were so dirty that our socks and even our shoes stuck to them. We also found a gross stain on the bed sheet. When we asked Nikki to change it, she said she'd bring us a sheet to replace ourselves. It was 1:30am and we'd already been traveling for over 14 hours, so we asked if someone could do it for us. Nikki was rude and said that wasn't an option, then told us we could switch rooms if we'd just ask. We took a different room, though by then we wanted to leave for another hotel. We'd arrived early in the morning and there weren't two double beds available, so we took a king room. After sleeping, we got out as quickly as we could. The shuttle driver was great, though we didn't get his name. He drives the night shuttles. Getting that shuttle from the airport was a miserable start. We'd been dropped off 11 days earlier and didn't know the airport, so when we called to ask where pickup was, Nikki just kept saying, "it will pick you up where it dropped you off." We called four times, and she hung up on us once. She still gave us no useful directions. We eventually figured it out after an hour. It was the worst hotel customer service we've ever had.
