Since Extended Stay left and Motel 6 took over, things have gone downhill fast. They’ve removed security, breakfast and coffee, tissues, and cleaning rags, and they’re stingy with trash bags. Even the toilet paper is cheaper. They haven’t offered to clean my room in the roughly three weeks since the change. The parking lot has people using drugs, including some who leave bags of drugs lying around for long-term residents to find, or worse, a child or animal. People knock on doors asking for drugs, transients sleep in several cars, and yelling carries on all night. I’ve been here nine months, and other residents who’ve been here for years have noticed things getting worse since March 20th. It hasn’t even been a month. Extended Stay wasn’t perfect, but this is foul. The water pressure is bad, and the AC units smell terrible and have moldy water in them. The office keeps saying it’s closed at night, so I can’t even change my bedding. I waited two hours, and it was only 9pm. Another update: it’s 7:30am and the office is closed again. This has happened several times this week.

Richard and the day staff are always courteous and ready to help with anything we need. Sadat and his night crew are just as good. Sadat stays upbeat and friendly, even when customers give him or his staff a hard time. If there’s a management award, I’d nominate both of them. They deserve a number one rating.

The grounds and laundry room are clean, and the other guests are cool. My room is clean too, and the kitchenette is good enough for me. Manager Roger responds quickly when I have questions and is very helpful. I keep forgetting the vending machines are in the laundry room.

I was staying long-term for work at Extended Stay America – Sacramento Northgate, in Room 322. Around 13 days in, I found illegal drug paraphernalia in a desk drawer. Staff on site responded after I reported it, but something like this raises serious questions about how rooms are inspected and cleaned. No hotel guest should find that in their room. Once I’d checked out, I contacted corporate several times to report what happened and ask for a resolution, but no one acknowledged me or replied. This was before the recent change of ownership. My main concern is the lack of corporate follow-up and accountability over a serious safety issue.
