American Classic Inn

If you want to gamble on your stay in Salida, this might be the place. Otherwise, I'd stay somewhere else. I stand by my original review, and anyone considering it can look at the other one-star reviews here. I leave business reviews regularly, wasn't doing this out of retaliation, and this was the worst hotel experience I've ever had, despite staying in hotels often. We booked through Hotels.com and left after the first night of our weekend in Salida. We're a family of five, with kids aged 5, 13, and 15, and had been sitting in our room watching TV when a man started pounding on our wall. Staff called to say another guest had complained about noise, though they'd walked past and didn't think we were loud. I told them about the pounding, and they said we should contact the police. I'd never had anything like that happen in a hotel. After we left, I got texts trying to charge us for a hole in the wall. I disputed the charge with my credit company and ignored the texts. Then the owner had a local cop call me, which seemed very unusual for a credit card dispute. I assumed it might be a boyfriend or something, but when I called the Salida police station, they only said the owner wanted me to get in touch and that they had nothing else to do with it. The next night, we drove by on our way into town and saw police cars there with their lights flashing. It seems we're not the only guests to have police involved in their stay. I wouldn't call this a safe place, and it wasn't very clean either. With the owner acting so erratically, I'd steer well clear.

We had a peaceful, quiet stay, and the location was really convenient. It's a super cute vintage motel, updated inside and exceptionally clean. The person who checked us in was friendly and helpful. Only issue was the lack of blackout curtains. The outside lights made the room too bright at night.

The shower and even the inside of the kitchenette fridge were spotless, which really impressed me. I'm always paying attention to room-cleaning details when I travel, and this place was so clean. It was our first stay at American Classic, and my girlfriend was just as impressed as I was. We both liked the decor and found the bed comfortable. We love getting out of town, so we'll definitely stay here again. Thank you.

The beds were comfortable and the concept was clever, with fair execution, but the floors were cold between the main room and the bathroom. What really ruined the experience was the rude staff, threats of extra charges, and being told we'd be hustled off the property. I rarely leave a negative review, but this one is an exception.
