The Metropolitan Inn

The staff were very nice and helpful, and the hotel is in a convenient spot for the conference center. Still, you get what you pay for. The area didn’t feel very safe until I got about a block farther north. My room was only semi-clean. There was black mold in the shower, torn curtains that wouldn’t close all the way, and a very loud AC unit. The elevator felt sketchy, and they required a $100 cash security deposit.

We were there for three nights, with medical procedures scheduled each day, and the customer service was awful. Our medical equipment needed wifi, but even after asking the front desk several times, we still couldn’t get it. More than once I found the desk clerk asleep on the lobby couch. We requested a late checkout, and he said we had until 11:30 or there’d be a fee. Then he called at 11 to ask if we were out. I reminded him of the time he’d given us. Every interaction went badly. Unless you only need a place to sleep for one night, don’t stay here.

The room had a long list of problems. Its door caught on the carpet and wouldn’t close easily, some light fixtures were uncovered, and there was just one outlet with an overloaded surge protector for two or more people. The blinds had holes, and a large tear in the curtain let light through. Though the bed looked clean, we found a clipped toenail in the sheets. Black mold covered much of the bathroom ceiling. The shower was fitted badly, so half the water came from the tub faucet no matter how we adjusted it. The towels were small, with maybe one per person. The service was just as frustrating. At check-in, we waited about 10 minutes in the lobby with at least one other party. The attendant was sitting out of sight at his desk, watching us without saying anything. We were assigned the top floor, and when we took the stairs to look at the room before bringing up our luggage, we discovered the only elevator was broken. Parts of the stairs were outdoors, with flickering lights, cobwebs, and broken safety grips. The hotel also advertises a pool and free breakfast, but we learned breakfast had been cancelled in 2020 and the pool had been filled with concrete. The next day we asked that same attendant for two more towels. Even after we gave our room and floor, he questioned whether we had a reservation, checked our ID against it, and asked if we were staying more nights. When we checked out, he again made us prove we had stayed, despite our having the keycard in hand. The place didn’t match the old photos or the nicer hotel we expected for the location.

BED BUGS 🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨 I stayed for two nights, from 01/02 to 01/04. The beginning of the stay was alright, and the hotel attendant gave good customer service. Then I found bed bugs after waking up on the second night. I asked for a refund, but they refused and said pest control had to come determine whether there was an infestation. When I asked when they’d arrive, the answer was, “I don’t know I’m just a night shift worker.” There were problems with the room too: the door jam lock wasn’t secured and had screws falling out, so the door wouldn’t lock properly. The walls were damaged, and the bathroom fan was hanging off, held by one nail. Don’t stay here. Go somewhere else and spend a little more! 🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨
