The Henry Gonzales convention center is only a short walk away. What stood out most was how consistently kind everyone was. The front desk and valet greeted me whenever I came or went, and they were accommodating. Housekeeping was friendly too. James Cantrell, the general manager, has helped create a culture of prompt, thoughtful service across the hotel. Other hotels could learn from it.

Our plans changed a lot when a major ice storm came in, and the staff were incredibly flexible. That made a big impression. Valet helped us arrive, the front desk welcomed us, and even the cleaning staff checked that we had what we needed, all with big smiles. The lobby is fun, the rooms are large and unusual, and restaurants along the River Walk are within walking distance. We were so happy with the stay. We’ll definitely be back soon. Easy five stars.

The downstairs speakeasy was great, and the rooms, lobby, and hotel all felt pretty elevated. There’s plenty to do on the street itself, with everything else in walking distance, so it works well for a downtown staycation or a visit. A couple of staff interactions felt less welcoming. Nobody was rude, but the woman at the front desk seemed annoyed when we checked in at 3 p.m., though later I saw her having a great time at the bar watching the Spurs game. I’m still planning to stay here again.

The rooms are nice and the place is clean, with mostly friendly staff. The scooters around the area are handy, but there aren't as many places to eat out as I expected. It can also be hard to locate the hotel on a map unless you already know where it is, so they should move the pin to the valet area behind the hotel. I didn't like that parking is valet only at $30 a night, with no other option.
