I stay in budget hotels all the time for work, and this Quality Inn & Suites surprised me. The free breakfast was better than what I’ve had at pricier places, the rooms were spotless, and the bed and bedding were soft and cozy. There’s even a smart TV you can cast to. The staff were welcoming and easy to deal with. It’s a great option if you want a good stay without spending a lot.

The staff were flexible and accommodating about early check-in and late checkout, and maintenance kept the room clean. The location is convenient, with HEB plus and plenty of places to eat nearby. I did find roach hands in the room, though, and I wish there were a drinking water fountain on the property.

The place didn’t feel safe to me, and the front desk staff seemed to be outside all the time. As we were getting ready for bed with my almost one-year-old, I found two roaches near our heads and another on the headboard. One had even crawled on my toothbrush, so I threw it out. The room smelled strongly of mildew as soon as we entered, and there was only a thin sheet on the bed. This was one of my worst stays. I’d never come back.

The beds and pillows were nearly as comfortable as the ones at home, and I had a good stay. I only spoke with the staff member at check-in, but he was nice. I was there to shower and sleep, so I didn’t need a long chat. Breakfast looked like it had plenty of choices, though I’m not really a breakfast person. The pool seemed decent, with a small hot/cold tub, but I was too busy to try it. For kids there’s a little playground, a game room with air hockey, foosball and arcade games, plus mini golf, which I haven’t seen at a hotel before. The low three-star rating shouldn’t put you off; for the price and location, it’s one of the better places I’ve stayed. I’d come back.

I gave this place a second chance and regretted it. The front desk employee was rude and unprofessional, and after I checked in at 2:30 a.m., found the room problems and saw the sorry state of breakfast, he started arguing with me when I walked back from the breakfast area. I’ll report it to the corporate office. It’s now on my never-again list unless I’m paid to stay. I’d reserved online and called to request a first-floor room. They confirmed it and said I could arrive as late as 2 a.m., but when I got there, they hadn’t held one for me. This location was very busy, apparently, and after 20 minutes driving around looking for parking I had to ask the desk and park in the fire lane. There isn’t enough parking. The room had a smoke detector ripped off the ceiling and several very loose outlets that wouldn’t hold plugs. The AC was stuck at 68, whether set to heat or cool. The shower leaked slowly, had heavy buildup, and the water pressure was low. I also found the bathroom pretty poor: the toilet was low and short, and its seat dug into my back, so I called it “Tom the tiny toilet.” The shower curtain rod ends were installed upside down, making the curtain slide toward the middle and letting water out both sides. There was water damage low on the walls, and the wet floor was dangerously slippery. Breakfast is still terrible. There were bread and bagels, scrambled eggs that seemed like cardboard rather than fresh eggs, sausage, cereal, waffles and yogurt. No muffins, grits, oatmeal or orange juice. They had Sunny D, which isn’t juice, and no vanilla yogurt. I’d rather have fewer choices and better food. The mini golf also showed up as a $10 included item on my receipt even though I didn’t know it was there, didn’t use it and didn’t want it. That should be a separate charge for people who choose to play. On my first stay, it was a budget-friendly, quiet hotel in a convenient location. The room was clean, the beds comfortable, and the lighting good. The bathroom was small, but the shower had good pressure and plenty of hot water. Breakfast had hot and cold options, though it was lacking. Crew members were professional, but mostly spoke broken English, which made getting things done harder. It could be good for families, but I won’t stay again unless the issues are fixed or I’m paid to. I’d have given two stars, but the beds were so comfortable I gave it three.
