Rodeway Inn Downtown

We had to find another hotel after this disaster, and it took three hours to find one with a vacancy. The first room they gave us was supposed to be non-smoking, but the comforters had cigarette burns right through them. All the linens felt dirty and were stained, and the window locks didn’t work, so it could just be slid open. When I complained, they said the cancellation window had passed but moved us to another room. It smelled better and the linens were a little cleaner, but both towels had black and yellow stains. The tub had been left running and wouldn’t shut off, and a cockroach scurried across it while I was in the bathroom at night. The advertised refrigerator didn’t work, and neither did the room phones, so I couldn’t call for anything. When I went downstairs, the staff member was complaining about guests asking for towels. The staff weren’t friendly. I wouldn’t stay here again for any amount of money, and I’ll pay more to stay elsewhere next time. Please don’t waste your time here.

The room was comfortable enough, and they were remodeling when I stayed, which was nice to see. It’s a motel, and it wasn’t my first choice, but it beat sleeping in the car and was better than the same-price alternative. Security is still questionable, though. The doors need replacing urgently. Ours had a lock, but the frame flexed alarmingly and someone could easily force it.

The manager was great and changed our pillows and cases, replaced one bed or mattress, swapped the shower curtain, and cleaned the bathroom. Judge for yourself. There was no refund, and several people left. They were spraying for bugs, though I only saw two. I slept there one night. It’s a 22-minute walk from the Riverwalk, and there’s a $75 deposit they don’t tell you about.

We got our money back and left as soon as we saw the room. The smell of urine and mold hit hard when the door opened, most of the lights didn’t work, and the “bed” was just a mattress on plywood. The TV sat on a broken chair on top of the cabinet. Outside, the place looked run down and the parking area had some sketchy-looking people around. The woman at the desk was drinking a can of Four Lokos while checking us in. This isn’t a three-star hotel by any stretch, it’s the worst place I’ve ever been. Finding another available hotel afterward took three hours. The city should shut this place down.
