#8132 - La Jolla Shores Penthouse Two-Bedroom Apartment

The garden-view room itself was in a great location, but the moldy smell was awful. The noisy air conditioner didn't get rid of it or cool the room, and the rooms badly need updating. I was refused a room change, though my friends' room and even the rooms being cleaned smelled the same. I paid over 1,500.00 for a couple of days expecting cleaner, nicer rooms, and I won't stay here again. The service was rude and I wasn't happy with the stay. The food was just okay, and so were the bar drinks. Breakfast was pretty good, even though the waiter got my order wrong and I ate it anyway because I hate sending food back. The golden hour latte was the only thing I truly enjoyed.

The balcony made the ocean-view room a disappointment. It was uneven and covered in bird poop, which got on my shirt, and it wasn't possible to sit out there and enjoy the view. I asked the food desk to move me, but they said the hotel was full, even though I could barely see anyone in my block or on the balconies. I had booked a good room three days ahead for a special occasion, and instead got what felt like the worst room in the hotel. The place is old, from the glasses and couch to the rest of the furniture. They also wouldn't provide cutlery because it apparently can't leave the restaurant, and they had no disposable utensils or plates either. For that much money, not even a knife for cake or a couple of plates? I think this hotel is worth less than half its price. Avoid it if you can. It isn't a place I'd choose for a celebration.

I usually pick five-star hotels, but this is a work trip and I'm very happy here. It's got a relaxing feel and a fantastic location. The hotel is a bit dated, sure, but as a three-star place at this price it's a solid choice. If I were paying $1000-1500, I'd be pickier, but the value here is great.

We needed to dry clothes after traveling, but none of the dryers worked. I spent hours trying to get our laundry dry, and after bringing it up to the front desk several times, all they said was they couldn't fix it and we'd have to wait. Now our room is full of wet clothes. This was our fourth stay, and I'm not sure we'll return. I love the location, but the amenities and interactions with staff left a lot to be desired.
