The staff were kind and extremely helpful, and the room was comfortable. You can tell the building is old, though they’ve done their best to add modern amenities. We stayed in a corner room and could hear everything happening on the street, which was my only complaint. The value is great, and the location is unbeatable, close to public transit, lots of different restaurants, and a quick walk from tour meeting points.
The hotel is in the heart of Downtown SF, and the nightly rate seemed average. There was a nice, very clean room with a large bathroom, good front desk service, and free evening amenities. But there’s no centralized AC in the room I had, so it was very loud. They also told me about hidden fees only after swiping my card. A side note: I noticed they’d charged me twice when I checked my bank statement. It took about two days to sort out, but the employee was polite and understanding, and my money was refunded within 48 hours. Keep an eye on your statement after staying here.
We had a very pleasant 4 nights at Hotel Union Square in April this year while visiting from the UK, and I’d recommend it to family and friends. Our room was small, but the bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was spacious, with upgraded fixtures and fittings. The hotel is clean and modern, with fashionable boutique decor and a relaxed feel. Staff were friendly and offered useful tips for getting around and making the most of lovely San Francisco. Union Square is very close, and the cable car turning station is a block away.
The staff were amazing throughout and did their best to accommodate us, which my wife and I really appreciated. But the room quality was a huge disappointment on our honeymoon. We chose this hotel for its location and amazing photos, yet the furniture looked rough and the sheets looked trashy, with room numbers written on them. They moved us to another room after we raised it, and while that furniture didn’t look like it had come back from WWII, it was still in poor shape. The pictures looked nothing like what we walked into, and we felt misled by the advertising. We can’t recommend it to anyone traveling to SF. The rooms need a lot of improvement. The staff were the only positive part of our stay.
The room was huge, with a huge walk-in shower, and very clean. We spent 6 nights in a junior suite and had a mini fridge in the room, even though the websites don’t mention one. The staff were great, and wine hour was a nice bonus. The location is perfect. This trip beat our expectations by a long shot. Best trip EVER, we’ll 100p% be back!
