We chose this place to save money and were happy with our room and bed. The setup is simple, but the bed and bedding were so comfortable I didn’t want to get out, and the large window brought in plenty of daylight. There’s also a TV, sink, and mini fridge. The shared bathrooms weren’t in the best condition, though they felt safe and comfortable to use. The building was quiet at night, and we didn’t see anyone shady inside. The area is the hard part: there are a lot of homeless people on the sidewalks, and at night you can hear a troubled person from a distance. If you can handle that, the place may suit you. My partner and I walked ten minutes to a nice grocery-style Walgreens, and better areas for food or drinks are within walking distance. I also felt safe smoking inside the gated doorway. I’d recommend it to someone trying to keep costs down.

The staff were really nice, and we could walk to all the attractions from here. It’s a decent place for a cheap price, though you get what you pay for. The shared bathroom was always nasty, both morning and night, so I’d pay extra for a room with a private one. There are lots of homeless people on the street outside, as you’d expect in the Tenderloin area, but they didn’t bother us day or night.

For a short stay, the comfortable beds and plenty of outlets make the setup workable, since you probably won’t spend much time in the room. It has a mini fridge, TV, and sink, but you need to use the toilets or bathrooms in the hallway. The value is very good compared with many nearby hotels. The front desk was often unstaffed, and the neighborhood has a lot of homelessness and drug use. It’s really just a couple of blocks, so if you can put up with that you should be fine. There’s a police station right behind the hotel if needed.

The private room with its own shower and restroom was the best price I found in town. I’m giving the hotel four stars so far for the location and how easy it is to reach lots of tourist areas. There’s plenty of noise and some unpleasant things going on, but I can adapt. My rating could change depending on how the next few days go.

The room and sheets were clean, and we knew when booking that there was no toilet in the room, so we’d have to get dressed to use the bathroom at night. We also knew about the homeless people on the streets and thought it wouldn’t bother us. But if I could do it again, I wouldn’t stay in the Tenderloin. Just walking a few blocks could ruin my appetite for hours. The smell was overwhelming, and there was poop on the sidewalks. I don’t think all of it was from dogs, some was probably human. So many people live outside there, in tents and, even more often, sleeping bags. It’s a very sad and smelly situation. I heard it’s hard to get into a shelter in San Francisco, and the city government needs to do much more to help those people. :(
