Hotel Sunnyside

We paid $60 a night for five nights, and the staff were respectful and patient. They charged nothing extra for our two dogs, no deposit or hidden fees, and took $5 off each night when I promised they were potty trained and I’d respect the room and not smoke. Paying the full stay upfront didn’t get us the multi-night discount I’d hoped for. The room was large and had two windows. It was fairly clean, quiet, and bedbugs and roaches weren’t an issue in our room, though I did spot roaches in the downstairs bathroom. We were in 304 on the middle floor, which seemed like the good floor. The bathroom there stayed clean and had toilet paper, while the upstairs shared bathroom was always a mess, like a wild party had happened. The shower and tub were clean enough with plenty of hot water. The room sink got hot enough to make coffee and Ramen without a microwave. The mini-fridge was clean and worked perfectly, and the bed was surprisingly comfortable. We brought our own sheets and blankets because the ones provided had cigarette burns, stains, or other damage. There was graffiti on the walls, and curtains, towels, bedding, and pillows seemed to get stolen or soiled. At those prices, and without a deposit, I can see how hard that might be to keep up with. Thank goodness they didn’t require a deposit, since we couldn’t afford the $200 other hotels ask for. This isn’t a place for families or kids. But if you need a safe, dry, affordable place to sleep without surprise fees, it could work. The area has a rough crowd, though people were generally friendly. Lock the doors and don’t leave valuables visible in your car.
