Hotel Zeppelin San Francisco

The hotel was a good choice for my first visit to San Francisco. I wasn’t sure where to stay, but I felt safe the whole time and had no problems with the area. It’s not right in the middle of the traffic gridlock, which I appreciated. The staff and housemaids were very friendly. Restaurants, the train and bus station, and Union Square shopping were all a quick walk away.

The room was clean, very clean, and they cleaned it daily. It had a quirky feel, a comfortable bed with enough pillows plus extras if needed, and a desk and mini fridge for drinks. There was a TV, but no drink-making supplies. A bottle of water was available for $5. The wardrobe had a security box, iron and coat hangers. The bathroom was clean and functional, with a shower and hairdryer. We had one window facing a wall, so there was very little natural light. The location is great. One thing to know about booking: the first four room types are nearly the same, with only slightly different sizes and perhaps a bigger bed. We’d paid for an upgrade because standard rooms weren’t available, then the receptionist said we’d been upgraded four times from standard. We expected a big, luxurious room, but it was only okay in size. Checking the website, the difference seemed to be 25 sq feet and maybe a larger bed.

The location was the one thing I liked: it’s easy to walk to bus stops, and the security was good. There are plenty of other hotels nearby, though. We were charged a $100 “amenity fee” by the end of our stay. There wasn’t complimentary water in the room, just an overpriced litter bottle. I also disliked the bathroom faucet because controlling the water pressure and temperature was difficult. The housekeeper moved too much of our stuff, and I’m pretty sure they threw out receipts I’d left on the desk and was saving for future use.

We loved our brilliant 3 day stay. The whole hotel’s rooms and decor are amazing and funky, and the atmosphere is relaxed. The staff were so helpful and kind. It’s perfectly situated in Union Square for getting to all the major sights.
