Oasis Inn

We just needed a place to park and sleep, then spend our money on events in the city, so this worked for us. It’s a cement box in the middle of San Francisco, but it does the job, and the free parking matters. At $80 a night, I didn’t expect to be pulling up to the Hilton. The price reflects what you get. The rooms are dated, the decor is awful, and the staff don’t seem to get customer service. I’ve been given a queen after paying for a king, and once had to make a fuss to get a clean room. Those one-star complaints aren’t wrong. If you want amenities and polite staff, go somewhere else.

The free parking was fabulous. Once we’d parked, we didn’t need to move the car or wait for someone to buzz us in or out. We went in with very low expectations, so finding a clean, comfortable room was a nice surprise. The place is badly out of date, with little quirks like a tiny sink and odd soap. For a one-night visit, I’d stay again.

We found Oasis while looking for somewhere reasonably priced for an opera in SF. It’s an easy walk to the War Memorial Opera House, and they have free parking. Our king bed was comfortable enough, springs and all. The window opened to cool the room, though there wasn’t a screen. The place feels a bit run down, but we’d probably come back.

I chose it for the parking lot, which was a godsend in SF, though I was nervous after reading reviews about cars being broken into. They’ve posted signs to lock up and take valuables, and I’d use the underground garage if possible. The room was loud, and there didn’t seem to be AC, but that didn’t matter in November. The staff seemed very chill, and at the time the price beat all the AirBnB options nearby. You come for the price, not the place, and shouldn’t expect much.
