La Quinta Inn by Wyndham San Marcos

The staff were attentive and quick with requests, and they kept breakfast stocked. I also appreciated that weekend breakfast ran until 10am, and the location is convenient, about 10-15 from TSU, outlets, etc. But the room and common areas were disgusting. The room smelled of urine and mold, and the air conditioning worked well but put out a moldy smell too. The carpet was sticky, the headboards filthy, and there were dead crickets under the desk. I found weed in the dresser and open yogurt in the mini fridge. The bathroom had mold and rust everywhere, a stained shower curtain, and a toilet that hadn't even been wiped down. Turndown service left the same blood-stained fitted sheet on the bed. The ice machine was filthy and smelled moldy. Breakfast wasn't at all like the pictures. It was the same food every day: pancakes, egg rounds, sausage links, toast, bagels, mini muffins, pre packaged bagels, yogurt, oj & apple juice. No fresh fruit. The fridge with yogurt and milk was filthy and smelled like spoiled milk. The coffee machine was a joke, serving tinted water, so the mini Keurig in the lobby was a better choice. There were no waffle machines, just an auto pancake machine that took forever and needed the batter bag replaced after about 10 pancakes. This place is a health hazard.

Only upside was being near the shopping outlets. Several websites said free cribs/cots for babies were provided, but that was wrong. When we went into the room, there was a STRONG smell of cleaning alcohol and sweet rust, like a car radiator going out. There were also several dead crickets underneath the desk. I wouldn't recommend it.

We arrived pretty late, but the woman at the front desk was so sweet and friendly. Our room, 104, was inexpensive and very clean, with a sofa sleeper, 2 TVs, a microwave and a fridge. There’s a nice swimming pool and hot tub. Breakfast had eggs, sausage links, hot cakes, and muffins. We had a wonderful stay and will definitely be back.

The front desk attendant was extremely nice, and she was the only good thing about the stay. The room wasn't clean at all. I killed multiple bugs in the two hours I was there and couldn't even stay the night because roaches were crawling on the beds. People were sleeping in their cars in the parking lot, which made me feel not safe AT ALL.
