Magnuson Hotel East Sandusky

I stayed with my family for one night, and I'm glad it was only one. At first things didn't seem too bad, but then I reported bed bugs and woke up to ants all over the drawers. Staff came and cleaned off the ants, but didn't apologize or offer any kind of refund, partial or otherwise. The poor management left me heavily disappointed. Worst hotel in Ohio, in my view. Never again. I was just out of my element.

After 12 hours at Cedar Point, I just needed somewhere decent to crash. A comfortable bed, a decent shower, and less than 300 a night were my requirements, and I got all three. The bed was comfy, and the shower was hot with plenty of pressure. It's fairly close to Cedar Point. Is it a five-star hotel? No. The cleanest, most modern upscale place? No. Was the staff ultra helpful and friendly? No. But it wasn't 300 a night either. If you're arriving after a long day and going straight to sleep, it's a great option. Just my two cents.

I was worried after seeing some awful reviews, but once I arrived I was glad to find those fears didn't match my stay. The area is great, with lots of places to shop and eat, and the front desk attendant was pleasant and helpful. My room was clean, though the carpet could use a deep cleaning and the room itself was a little outdated. For a budget stay, I was happy.

The lobby was kind of cool when we came in, but the woman at the front desk was rude. They never mentioned a $10 cash deposit for each person under 21. Three of our four were under 21, yet we were charged for all four of us. The place still had everything from the old Americas Best Value, or whatever it used to be. There was mold in the shower, chipping paint, dirty sheets, uncomfortable beds, and terrible WiFi. The continental breakfast was just donuts from the vending machine. The outside doors were almost always wide open, so anyone could come in, and the room doors barely locked. I'd recommend the other Magnuson hotel, which is even cheaper, nicer, and has more helpful staff. I definitely wouldn't recommend this one.
