Top Hill Motel

Just a couple of Alaskan bikers riding through beautiful upstate New York. The room was reasonable and older, but very clean.

We chose this motel for a concert at SPAC, and it was easy to get to the venue and back. An excellent BBQ restaurant is within walking distance. Though it's an older place, it's well maintained, and the pool looked clean and cared for. The owner was friendly and helpful. There's quite a bit of traffic noise because it's close to a busy road, but I already plan to stay there again in the near future.

It's inexpensive, clean, and a short drive from town. The beds were pretty comfortable, the A/C and TV were new, and there was a microwave and fridge. The coffee in the office each morning was a nice touch. Even though the room faced the street, it was pretty quiet, and you could drive right up to the front door. Still, there are some pretty poor amenities. The towels felt like sandpaper, and the shampoo packets needed scissors to open. The floor sloped noticeably at the far end, which was strange. The sheets and quilt felt tacky, and there were no tissues. The toilet wasn't fully bolted down and rocked when you sat on it. There were two of us, but when I asked the woman at the desk for another hand towel, she said, “I already gave you one.” They still left just one hand towel for two people after cleaning the room. I guess you get what you pay for.

The room was dirty, with stains on the bed sheets, and they charged a lot more than they had told us to expect. At the front desk, the staff member accused us of having four people in the car when there were only three. After one of our cards didn't work, he kept being rude and loudly said we didn't have enough money in front of other people, even though it was just the card we used. If you want a clean room and better service, I'd look somewhere else.
