The reservation was eventually canceled, leaving us to find somewhere at the last minute and move all our things ourselves. We couldn’t get a manager or anyone with authority to speak with us, even the next day, despite talking to several representatives. Hours of back and forth with customer service got us nowhere, and nobody helped with the water or the cleanup. We did more to deal with it than anyone from Sonder. After heavy rain, every window leaked and water spread through the place. The musty smell was already there before the storm, so this clearly wasn’t a new issue. It felt like nobody in the organization cared about us or possible damage to the building. There were about five other Marriott properties within a mile, but they wouldn’t help us find alternate lodging. I’m shocked Marriott bought this company, and even more surprised they let it operate this badly under their name. We’ll never stay at a Sonder again.

The bed was the real problem: the pillows were flat as pancakes, and the mattress felt like soft sponge, so sleeping was very uncomfortable. Otherwise, we had a pleasant stay. The apartment was clean and a decent size, in a great spot in Savannah’s historic district. The kitchen had everything needed to cook. It’s an old building, and the wooden floors give it a particular smell. Old homes do tend to smell that way.

Being right in the middle of town was great. We could walk to what we needed, including River Street and the nightlife. The apartment itself was clean, eclectic, and had a historic feel. The full kitchen, washer and dryer, and supplied cleaning items were useful, including laundry and dishwasher pods. The pullout sofa was broken and felt like sleeping on springs against your back. My son used the regular sofa with the bedding provided, and found that more comfortable. This place really works better for one person or a couple, since the sofa bed isn’t a reasonable option. Getting around by car was a headache. The parking was three blocks away, and the $20 daily pass scanner failed about half the time, so we had to wait for help. The front keypad was broken throughout our stay, leaving tenants to use the back entrance, which felt less safe at night. There was also a large, foul-smelling dumpster outside that door. I contacted Sonder and was asked to send a photo; they said they’d follow up but never did. They also wouldn’t approve a late checkout, despite the app saying it might be available.

A coffee shop across the street was a nice touch, and I felt safe in both the apartment and building because of the security measures. I’d stay here again next time I’m in Savannah. The location was just right. We skipped the suggested garage and paid for the lot in the alley instead, which was worth it since we could see the car and didn’t have to walk in the rain. It’s a historic building, so footsteps on the creaky floors and hallway noise carry. They provide earplugs, which helped with the city and hallway sounds.

Sonder’s customer service was top notch. A winter storm disrupted my travel, and they refunded my reservation. I’ll definitely look for them again. The place was easy to use, almost like the simplest Airbnb experience. It’s in a very convenient part of the historic district, and the clear check-in directions, plus instructions for Wi-Fi and the TV, made things straightforward. The kitchen had everything I needed, and I like to cook.
