Bear Glacier room is a real gem. It was exceptionally clean and felt fresh, and everything we wanted to see was either walkable or a short drive away. Sarah welcomed us warmly and made us feel right at home. Her homemade breakfasts each morning were awesome. We had a wonderful stay and highly recommend it as a home base in Seward.

We booked two rooms at Northern Nights for two couples traveling together, but the rooms were smaller than we expected. The website photos gave the impression of a much larger, more appealing setup, and may have shown the best room rather than the standard rooms. My wife had an allergic reaction in our room. The B&B is advertised as pet-free, but I recognized symptoms of her cat allergy, which she’s extremely sensitive to. When I asked Sarah, the owner, whether there was a cat on the property, she said she owns one but that it stays in a separate area. She was upset that I asked and dismissed the possibility of a connection, rather than showing concern. The next morning at breakfast, she was still defensive and very sour. She didn’t ask once about my wife’s condition or express concern, and came across as passive-aggressive. I found that very disappointing. Hospitality should include caring about guests’ comfort and well-being when an issue comes up. We left with a very poor impression. Between the way the rooms were presented and the lack of empathy or professionalism when I raised a health concern, I can’t recommend this property.

The Bear lodge rooms and bathroom were clean and well maintained, and the shared dining area felt warm and welcoming. Sarah was a knowledgeable host who made a wholesome breakfast for my family of four. It’s worth asking her for ideas on unusual experiences in this beautiful city. The location was excellent, close to the Seward library and museum. We could park outside Northern nights easily, and the scenic walk to the harbor was under two miles.

Sarah is such a gracious host. The rooms were very clean, the cotton sheets were soft, and breakfast was incredibly delicious. Lovely, we loved it.

Sarah gave us a warm welcome, and her hot, homemade breakfasts were a lovely addition to a very comfortable room. Northern Nights made for a world-class stay, and the location was great as well. I highly recommend this excellent Seward bed-and-breakfast.
