Econo Lodge Sioux Falls North

For an affordable, no-frills place to sleep in Sioux Falls, EconoLodge does the basics well. My room was clean, the bed was soft and more comfortable than I expected, and the hallways stayed quiet all night. It's one of the cheapest options around North Sioux Falls, and the stay felt about right for a budget motel. I saw construction going on, which seemed like a good sign that they're working on improvements.

For the price, I was impressed by the quiet room, good Wi-Fi, and comfortable bed. The location was convenient too, with plenty of places to eat nearby. Everything in the room was spotless and comfortable, and it had what I needed. The staff were friendly, professional, and ready to help, and check-in and check-out were both easy. I had a great stay at the Econo Lodge and would gladly come back next time I'm in town. Highly recommend.

I wouldn't recommend this place to a single woman or a family with kids. Security feels especially important in this area, where drug use is known, and there were lots of questionable people coming and going. At 7am a homeless man was sleeping in the hallway, and the doors didn't feel secure. The building and rooms smelled of smoke, and I saw smoke damage. The blankets had burn holes, I had to call corporate just to get towels, and during our first week there was no breakfast at all. After three weeks, we were still requesting blankets and towels, and had to clean our own room despite the $3 cleaning fee. It's hard to tell whether the pool is ever open. The room had the usual hotel appliances, but the price didn't match the ad: with my Choice membership I expected to pay at most $68 a night, but was charged $90. There was also a $100 deposit for a place I don't think is worth it given the damage and smoke.

I booked a particular room through the Choice app, but the room I was given wasn't the one I'd reserved. At the desk, they said the room I wanted would cost about twice the rate I was being charged, so I went across the street to the Days Inn instead. Nine days later, the hotel still hadn't released the hold on my account. I've filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, and a civil suit is pending with the state of South Dakota. Bait and switch is illegal.
