Hotel On Phillips

The downtown location is ideal, especially for getting around on foot. We picked this hotel for our wedding room block because we liked the historic building, wanted to support local businesses, and the bar owners were running our venue. Still, I wouldn't recommend it for a wedding stay. There was a check-in misunderstanding, but even beyond that, the service was awful and disrespectful. The receptionist watched me anxiously struggle to reach the sales person I was working with, with Connie's phone ringing beside her. She said, “Connie doesn’t work weekends,” then picked up the phone and hung it up. I was embarrassed and stressed, and she watched me cry in the lobby and giggled as I tried to ask what rooms were available. We did luckily get a room, but the whole thing made me feel like a nuisance, or like it was a game. In the suites there's nowhere proper to hang a wedding dress, with no hooks and a closet that's much too small. Our ninth-floor room also had a rattling air vent that was never fixed. It kept me awake for two nights, including the night before our wedding. I later spoke with the sales manager about the service and the stay, and was told they rarely give refunds or comp rooms. If you're hoping for compensation for a problem, don't count on it. Jeff was the saving grace, with great service and the best personality. It's fine for a quick downtown visit, but I wouldn't tell someone getting married to stay here.
