Motel 6 Sioux Falls

We were passing through during an April snowstorm and stayed from about 7 a.m. until 11 the next day. The staff were very nice, and the room and towels were clean. For the price, it’s hard to beat. The woman at the front desk was friendly and helpful. The bed was comfortable, and the shower, though there was no tub, worked well for us.

The man in the office was pleasant and got me into a room quickly, even though it was late. He also asked whether a first-floor room would suit me better since I had my dog. For $50-60, I wasn’t expecting much. The room was fairly clean and had a fridge and a warm shower, which were about all I needed. The bed was mediocre, though, and I’d asked for nonsmoking but the room stank.

At least the heat worked, and the bathroom was in fairly decent shape with hot water. The rest of the stay was rough. The hotel is beside a busy road and interstate, and there’s almost no sound insulation. Diesel trucks parked out front started up on a bitterly cold morning and idled for a long time, so it felt like they and the road were inside the room. Snow removal was poor too, leaving the walkway and stairs difficult to use and likely tracking snow into everyone’s rooms. The towels were paper thin, and the sheets and bedding weren’t much better. Shampoo wasn’t provided unless you count the $2 travel bottle in the vending machine. The rubber strip at the bottom of the door was shredded, letting cold air in all night. Evening check-in was through a banker's window, which made me wonder about the area's safety and the hotel's clientele. I’ve stayed at some nice Motel 6s, but this definitely wasn’t one.

The staff were really friendly and the beds were clean, but the rest of the place needs serious cleaning and repairs. The carpet was stained and sticky. The toilet ran for most of the night, and the sink faucet leaked at the handle whenever I turned it on. I don’t think I’ll return until the rooms get upgraded like most of the other Motel 6s.
