Travelodge by Wyndham San Francisco Airport North

My standards for hotels are low, and I’ve never wanted to review one before, but this stay got me there. The room was dingy. One of the three old light fixtures in the main bedroom didn’t work, the bathroom vent filter was visibly clogged, and the water pressure was poor. There were stains on the carpet and a small grease mark on the comforter. The headboard was sticky and filthy, and the outlet by the nightstand was barely attached to the wall. The walk from Building 5 to the main lobby was fairly long, with uneven ground that was awkward for suitcase wheels. The airport shuttle schedule was posted in the lobby but wasn’t easy to get otherwise. I asked for it through booking.com messaging and got no response. After waiting about 30 minutes for a shuttle at SFO without knowing if one was coming, I took an Uber. The person at the check-in desk was fine, though a little overwhelmed by the line and could have used help. The bed and pillows were decently comfortable, the AC worked well, and the location was good. Those were the only positives. I added a photo of the schedule as it appeared in June 2026.

The shuttle ride to the airport the next morning went smoothly, and the front desk clerk was friendly. But our overnight layover stay with two young children was very disappointing. We tried several times to reach the hotel from the airport to arrange a shuttle, but nobody answered. When we finally got through, we were told it had already left, so we paid over $30 for a very short 4 minute Uber ride. Outside, the property smelled like marijuana and felt unsafe and poorly maintained. Our room didn’t seem properly cleaned: the toilet paper was open and looked used, one soap was opened, and the small square pillows looked slept on. The walls were cracked and the bathroom was moldy. There was also a room nearby with a BBQ grill outside, an open box of beer, and other messy stuff by the door. The room was significantly outdated and didn’t match the advertised photos, even though other rooms on the property looked renovated. Since we arrived around 1:00 AM with two young children, we stayed rather than search for another room. I had booked it expecting a clean, safe place to rest, and the condition was unacceptable.

I’ve stayed here 44 nights this year, I think. It’s very cheap, and for that price it’s fine, even great. There are nicer hotels, but not cheaper ones, and none nicer at this price. The rooms could use an update. It’s been a long time since the bathrooms were remodeled, though they work. Don’t expect a gym, room service, or concierge. The sliding pocket bathroom doors never work particularly well, so sharing a room means you’ll get familiar. It’s near the freeway, but the noise is constant. The heater and AC always work, though sometimes they’re a bit loud. It’s been clean every time I’ve stayed, and they’ve fixed problems quickly. The wifi works well, surprisingly for a hotel in this tier. The staff are friendly, the location is convenient, and the airport shuttle is reliable.

The outside was dirty, with trash and construction debris scattered around, and the property doesn’t match the clean rooms and decent furniture shown on Expedia. It also seems to be under construction. The photos Travelodge has on Expedia are horribly out of date. In my room, the paint looked rushed, like a five-year-old had done it. The restroom door was peeling badly and wouldn’t lock: the lock was ancient, and there was no opening in the wall for it to fit into. The bathroom sink handles were troublesome too. I had to figure out how far to turn them to get the water to shut off. The AC would turn itself off and wouldn’t turn back on.
