Comfort Inn & Suites Springfield

The king bed was big and comfortable, and at $74 a night I kept my expectations modest. There was still plenty wrong. Customer service was terrible: nobody was at the desk, though I could hear a TV playing in the office, and there was only a sign with a phone number to call for help. The room was only sorta clean and needed a deep clean. There were dead bugs in the window frame and dirt under the furniture. I had trouble sleeping because of a loud clanking that went on most of the night. The AC and heater didn’t work, though the room temperature was mostly comfortable. Someone had stuffed Kleenex into the peephole opening in the door. If I needed a room nearby, I’d find another hotel.

Around 9:15 am, as I was getting ready to check out, my key cards stopped working while I was loading the rental car. I got locked out with my phone, wallet, and boarding pass inside. Checkout was posted as 11 am, but there was nobody at the desk to help. Eventually I found a man cleaning the hallways who could assist. The AC unit had also made an awful noise all night. Getting locked out in below-20-degree weather was frustrating and not money well spent.

The beds were extremely hard and uncomfortable. The lobby was very warm when we arrived, though thankfully the air conditioning in the room worked well. Breakfast was supposed to start at 6 am, but both mornings we left around 6:20 to 6:30 and found nobody there and no food out. My companion asked someone at the front desk, who insisted breakfast had been set out by 6 the previous morning. It absolutely hadn’t. I took a video both mornings showing there was nothing complimentary at all. Three stars is generous.

The rooms felt fresh, modern, and clean, as if they’d recently been renovated. Everything seemed well maintained, and the service was excellent. The staff were attentive and helpful, which made the stay comfortable and pleasant.
