Country Inn & Suites by Radisson Springfield IL

We came to town for a funeral and were exhausted after driving from Chicago to Springfield with our directions off. The first room we were given had a dead phone, broken TV cable and temperature controls, plus a large bug crawling on the wall. The manager helped us move to another room, but its lights didn’t work. He apologized and seemed genuinely surprised that room had problems too. The third room seemed okay at first. Then I found soaking wet toilet tissue and took it downstairs for the manager to feel. He asked how it got wet, and I said that was a good question. Back in the room, I tried the sink. The stopper lever wouldn’t open or close the drain, so I pulled the piece up by hand and water burst out of the pipe everywhere. I called the manager back up rather than explain it, and he was shocked and apologized. He cleaned up the water. I said we definitely shouldn’t have to pay for a room with all those problems. He agreed, but said the manager with authority to do anything would need to call me. The people I dealt with were helpful, nice, and sincere. But when Kelly, the manager, spoke to me today, she said a refund wasn’t possible because I booked through a third party, who receives the money and pays them. She offered points for a future stay, which won’t help since we won’t be back in Springfield. She didn’t offer to send money back after they were paid or anything for the inconvenience. I won’t stay here again or recommend it. We were already dealing with losing a family member. There were plenty of other hotels nearby, so find another place.

My wife and I were traveling with our two dogs during a severe winter storm on November 29th. After more than ten hours of driving, we booked this Country Inn about five minutes before arriving because it was the first hotel we found. Staff told us we couldn’t stay, even though our pets are ESA’s. We asked politely for a refund and left to find another hotel, but later learned it had never been issued and was being denied despite the circumstances. We expected more care given the weather and wouldn’t recommend staying here. Update: The owner expressed regret in their response but still won’t refund us. That confirms my view. I’d choose any other hotel rather than one that takes advantage of people in distress.

The staff were really nice, but the door in my room had clearly been kicked in and patched cheaply instead of replaced. Why was it kicked in, and why leave a compromised door for the next guest? Avoid room 415 if you stay here.

There was a lot of noise from bikes and cars, and the pillows were awful. The room looked clean, but the bathroom had black mildew. The door also stuck, so I had to pull it firmly to make sure it latched.
