American Inn

The highway is close, and there are a few places to get food nearby. That’s about all I can say in its favor. You get what you pay for here, and it felt like a rough area. People were fighting right outside my door around 1 a.m., and people I took to be junkies argued nearly all night, outside and in the room below mine.

The prices are reasonable, and the rooms feel homey, though they could use your personal touch. I was very happy staying here. I loved the room service, which never missed a day. When an emergency came up, they followed precautions to help all the residents evacuate the building.

The clerk worked with us and gave us a partial refund, which I appreciated. Otherwise, we would have been out $95 for five minutes in the room. The pictures online had made this seem like a decent hotel, but the room was nasty: stained sheets and mold on the backs of the nightstands. There’s a small sign in the check-in cubby saying there are no refunds, so ask to see the room first. It was hardly worth the $95 they charged.

The room seemed clean, the staff were polite, and it’s near everything. The rooms have apparently been 99% renovated recently. But the lobby entrance and front desk were filthy, with a strong curry and fart-like smell that I had to breathe in. Cleaning, ventilation, and an air purifier would help. The shower started with hot water, then stayed cold, so I left early. I would have recommended the room if not for the hot water problem. Please clean the lobby.
