Sleep Inn Saint Charles North

We arrived at 1 a.m. after traveling, and the front desk person was friendly. I wasn't sure what to expect because the reviews were mixed, but the bed was really comfortable and the room was in good shape. The carpets are dated, but that didn't bother me, and our third-floor room was quiet. The elevator felt a little sketchy, lol. My only complaint was breakfast on the weekend. It ended at 9, and we came down at 9:05 to find everything gone. After a 15-hour drive and getting in at 1 a.m., I was disappointed. It would be nice if weekend breakfast ran until 10. I'd stay here again.

The mattress was very comfortable, but the cleanliness was awful. There was dried menstrual blood on the mattress pad, black hair in the sheets, and tears in the sheets too. Since there was no housekeeping, I had to make the bed myself with clean sheets. I can't see how the cleaner could have missed the blood on the pad, especially since it had bled through to the sheets. It was disgusting. Breakfast was average, but cleaning was subpar.

The room itself was fully remodeled, including the restroom flooring and shower, and the sheets were clean. There was hot and cold water when needed. The employees and owners were nice and welcoming, and the owners greeted us whenever we came in. There's a refundable $100 deposit when booking. For a good night's rest, the comfort and cleaning were fine. I've been a Choice Hotels member for years, and this was a last-minute booking I found online. The location is horrible, tucked far behind a row of stores, with poor lighting and potholes in the parking lot. The entry and exit points aren't great, either. There was no breakfast, water, or coffee. My main concern is that the lobby doors stay open throughout the night. I wouldn't stay here with family or kids, and I wouldn't recommend it for safety if traveling alone.

We came for the pool, then learned it was under construction. That's not their fault, but a broken deadlock on the door and a picture frame with more than half its glass broken were waiting in the room. We don't know whether the glass had been cleaned up and the frame left hanging. Breakfast was a mess: cold biscuits and gravy, watery juice and coffee, unfilled cereal containers, and old food stains and splatters on the wall by the trash receptacle. I asked for cereal to be refilled, and they did. There was also a hole where the ceiling and wall meet in the breakfast room. After we went out for the day, our room hadn't been cleaned and the sheets hadn't been changed. When my boyfriend asked, we were told we had to request fresh sheets. They handed them to us and my boyfriend and I made the bed ourselves. The shower took so long to warm up that I thought there was no hot water on my first try. Getting help was difficult because nobody seemed to be at the front desk. The blinds outside the front office were torn and loose, making it look like people were peeking out and watching without showing themselves. They did have a printer, but it didn't work directly. A man at the desk was helpful and offered to print a document if we emailed it to him.
