The room was dark and dated, with dim lighting, peeling wallpaper, and a dirty, stained chair. At the rate I paid, the place badly needs a remodel. The bathroom light didn’t work, the 3rd-floor ice machine was broken, and it seemed like little maintenance was happening. The elevator was out. I know repairs can take a day or 2 for a service person to show up, but things got worse from there. This was also the only Hampton in my 40+ years of travel that charged a $10 fee for incidentals. What incidentals would a Hampton have? It makes zero sense. I’m a diamond member and have stayed in Hilton properties for 40+ years. I basically live in them during the week, and this is easily the worst Hilton property I’ve been in. I felt sorry for the front desk attendant dealing with complaints every day. I doubt he gets paid enough. For a much better experience, I’d choose one of the newer hotels nearby in Sweetwater.

The place looked tiny in our rearview mirror, and that was about the only thing that impressed us. We won’t be back, and this stay has us reconsidering Hampton and Hilton altogether. It was easily the worst Hampton we’ve stayed in. The hotel was dark, dingy, and not clean. The towels looked 20 years old and well past time to replace. The bathroom sink didn’t work properly, the shower wasn’t fully clean, and the body wash bottle was empty with no sign anyone had checked or refilled it. The coffee maker took a wrestler’s effort to lock the pods in, it was so old and overused. The evening desk clerk mumbled through check-in, and the carpeting throughout was bad enough that someone remarked, “I don’t know when they last vacuumed that.” Good riddance.

We got a decent night’s sleep, but the rooms weren’t ready when we arrived after 5:30pm following a full day of travel. We were told the hotel had been full the night before, which isn’t something arriving guests should have to deal with. Then we heard one room was ready while the other was waiting for “sheets to get out the dryer.” We left our luggage in the clean room and went to dinner, but that room smelled strongly of smoke despite looking clean. The pillows were very flat, and there was no soap in the bathroom. The location right off the highway is good. Breakfast was a disappointment: the scrambled eggs seemed like they might be powdered, and they were tasteless and hard to eat. Brian tried to help by offering bottled water, but by then we were unimpressed. We finished the stay and called Hilton customer service. They offered 5,000 Hilton Honors points. Since one room alone cost 30,000 Hilton Honors points, that felt like a very small gesture for the inconvenience. As a Hilton Gold member, I was disappointed and am reconsidering my loyalty to Hilton properties.

The breakfast was okay, and the front desk clerk was nice, quick, and efficient with the reservation. The rooms were reasonably clean, too. Some face the interstate, though, and get noisy at night. The parking lots were dark, and the carpet in front of the elevators was badly worn. This is an old hotel. The front doors were broken, and walking in, you could smell the moldy swimming pool. Wallpaper was peeling off the walls.

I was there for less than 12 hours and paid full price for a smelly, filthy place. I travel every week for business, and I only ended up here because the Holiday Inn next door was fully booked. I’m done with this hotel chain. Eugene, I’ll be filing a complaint directly with Hilton and letting corporate know how rude the desk clerk was and how bad the conditions were. There wasn’t even a shower curtain, so water leaked onto the floor. The shower was gross, the old shower head had almost no pressure, and the towels were crusty. The carpet was soggy and smelled of mildew. The bed felt like a box spring. The TV remote didn’t work, so I had no TV. I called the desk, waited 45mins, and called again. They gave me another remote that also didn’t work, then the clerk hung up on me with “have a good night.” No help at all. When I came to check in at 4:45p, the rude clerk said they were behind on cleaning and he couldn’t do anything. There was no supervisor or manager to help, just more attitude for me and the other men waiting. I’ve noticed the “owner” responds to positive posts but not to guests with problems like mine. The clerk didn’t care.
