Mainstay Suites

The price was good, and the breakfast was normal and okay. Our room was spacious and clean, but the desk was right below the TV at the foot of the bed, leaving no room to pass if someone was sitting there. The shower grab bar was loose, and I’m glad I didn’t need it. The hotel is tucked off the main road, and parking was limited.

The staff were outstanding, and breakfast was one of the better free hotel breakfasts we’ve had. Our room was decent for a night, and the area felt safe, though the road leading to the hotel was badly worn, full of potholes, and had a strange feel. The room smelled a bit musty, and the AC unit’s buttons were broken. After turning up the heat, I couldn’t lower the temperature. I spent the night switching between the fan and heat to manage it.

The room was a letdown. The carpet was stained and worn, unlike the tile floors I’ve seen at most Wyndam sites, and the bathroom had broken tiles and moldy grout. I also had to go upstairs to the first floor for ice, though that machine worked and the day clerk was pleasant and helpful. Getting in was frustrating too. We arrived at 7pm, and the night clerk seemed bothered by our arrival. She required us to fill out a particular form for our registered service dog, and the information it asked for doesn’t comply with Florida Law. Parking was a hassle, with most spaces a long way from the entrance and elevator. There was no baggage cart available, so I made five trips to the car. The clerk said there was only one cart and she couldn’t find it. Ridiculous for a hotel this size. We’ll stay somewhere else when we visit family next time.

This was my first time at this hotel because my usual one was sold out, and the check-in left a terrible first impression. They were missing my credit card authorization form, so I called my travel agent to sort it out while the employee helped someone else. My agent had already spoken with Jennifer around 1:48, so I knew the form issue wasn’t on our end. I asked whether Jennifer was still there and got an annoyed, “I will be with you in a moment sir.” After she finished, I went to the counter with my agent still on the line, but she started checking in another guest. I said I’d wait and let her do that. Then she said, “I’ll take you now sir,” with more attitude. She called Jennifer, who pointed her to the form, which suddenly turned up beside her in a pile of other forms. There was no apology for the mistake, just more attitude. Then she talked about me to another front desk employee. I could hear it, and it wasn’t that serious. Taking responsibility is part of good business, and this hotel needs to work on how it handles corporate accounts. Sorry TRYP, this employee was the wrong hire. I hope the issue gets addressed so other customers aren’t treated this way. I’ll ask for the hotel to be removed from our preferred list so our team doesn’t have to deal with this level of service.
