SpringHill Suites Tempe at Arizona Mills Mall

The room had a small king suite and nothing special, and parking cost extra. The whole place had a Motel 6 vibe, even with a Marriott name. The beds were old and awful, especially the pull-out mattress, which was so flat it looked like it came from a garage sale. After a long volleyball day, we got back one night and found our clothes moved from where we’d left them, shoved into bags at the bottom. I searched everywhere before finding them. The front desk said they didn’t know what happened but would make a note. It seemed like housekeeping had been in the room, done nothing else, and messed with our clothes, maybe looking for valuables. After that, I didn’t feel comfortable leaving our luggage there. Breakfast was just so-so, the location felt shady, and the staff were friendly. I’ll never stay again.

Our King Suite on the third floor was spacious, spotless, and had everything we needed: a large TV with Netflix, a mini-fridge, microwave, and cozy sitting area. Both elevators worked throughout our stay. The hotel was clean and well maintained, and the staff were consistently helpful and cheerful. We stayed several nights at SpringHill Suites by Marriott Tempe at Arizona Mills Mall. It’s close to highways, shopping, and restaurants, but surprisingly peaceful. We didn’t hear traffic despite the main road nearby. Breakfast was simple but satisfying, with fresh coffee, fruit, yogurt, eggs, and waffles. Free parking, a small fitness room, and a palm-lined outdoor pool were nice extras. The pool looked like a pleasant place for a quick swim or morning coffee in the sun. Check-in and checkout went smoothly. It was comfortable and convenient, and good value for the Tempe or Phoenix area.

This doesn’t feel like a great area for tourists or travelers, and we won’t be back. I wouldn’t recommend it to a woman traveling alone who feels uncomfortable with unhoused people on site after dark. The room was okay, though some areas looked their age. The hallways were clean except for a smelly McDonald’s order left out for two days, moved around but never thrown away, even though cleaning staff had been walking past it all day. The man who checked us in was wonderful. Earlier, the woman who said we could check in around 1 pm came across as fake friendly, and promised to call when the room was ready. At breakfast, the attendant told my husband there were two busloads of kids in the hotel and to get food before they came down. Staff knew there was a big group staying there, but could’ve done more for regular guests. They could limit the number of kids in the breakfast area or seat and feed them in a meeting room so others could eat comfortably.

The room was filthy. The bed looked dirty, the bathroom clearly hadn’t been cleaned, and the tub was stained yellow and disgusting. When I called for help, the front desk woman was disrespectful, rude, and completely unprofessional. I was shocked by the poor cleanliness and basic hospitality. I won’t stay here again and can’t recommend it.
