Smith Rock Resort

The location felt pretty remote, and there aren’t many places to eat nearby. There are only two restaurants close by, so for more options we had to drive to Redmond, which added about 40 minutes round trip. Despite the name, the hotel is around 20 minutes from Smith Rock, not right next to it. For convenience on a Smith Rock visit, I’d stay in Redmond instead. We picked this hotel mainly for the views, so it was disappointing that our room had none. We were told it was the only pet-friendly room with two full beds available, but the booking site still showed seven rooms of that type after we reserved. That seemed misleading. The beds were too small for two adults to share comfortably, and the AC was so loud it made sleeping difficult. If the view is why you’re booking, call ahead to check. From what I saw, only rooms along the outer edge have scenic views. The other rooms face inward or have no view.

Coming down the hill to the yurts, I’m always struck by how at home I feel here. The quiet resort opens up below, with gorgeous canyon views from several lookout spots. I also love seeing the furry creatures that live here. It’s a real gem, and I’m grateful I found it. This was my third vacation at Smith Rock Resort, and I leave loving it more each time. It’s peaceful and relaxing, even with four kids traveling with me. The staff were especially great this time, paying attention to guest preferences and being respectful. Everything was clean, too. The location is ideal. Thanks for another amazing vacation!

We had a warm, comfy winter getaway in the off-season, close to nature. Our room was a pet-friendly, disability-friendly half-yurt, and we met other people staying there. There are places to eat nearby, and the room has a microwave. The golf course is right there, the pool opens seasonally, and there’s plenty of lovely walking and hiking. The location is beautiful and close to hiking trails. It worked well for a private or group retreat. The place was clean and comfortable, and management was great. Thanks so much for the warm hospitality. We’d love to go back!

After a six-hour drive, we arrived to find out our reservation had been canceled and the room rebooked. They said “Expedia” had sent the wrong dates, and that we hadn’t checked in the day before, 8/29, ahead of our actual check-in date, 8/30. I showed proof of the correct reservation date, but she just shrugged and said, “I don’t know what to tell ya.” When I asked why they hadn’t contacted us before canceling, she said, “we don’t do that.” This was a special trip for my husband’s birthday. The manager also wouldn’t refund us until I threatened to call the cops over being charged for our reservation, which we never canceled, while they took money for another booking and made the room unavailable. We had to scramble for a hotel that cost three times as much because it was a holiday weekend. All we got was “sorry.” I’ll never book Smith Rock Resort again because of the owner’s lack of accountability and respect, which also comes through in her replies to these reviews. I also spoke with Expedia about it. They told me, “I understand. However, sending wrong dates to their system is not possible because once you have submit your booking with us it will sync on their system automatically. And also, we do not change or cancel any reservation without your consent.”
