When we visit family in Tomah a couple of times a year, Hampton Inn is our usual place to stay. It feels like a home away from home, and we look forward to each visit. The rooms are spacious and clean, and the staff have always been kind and accommodating. The breakfast area is tidy and well stocked with hot food, pastries, cereal, and fruit.

The breakfast was wonderful, with some things I hadn't tried before. I gave everything a try, and it was great. The breakfast attendant followed safe food practices, kept the tables clean, and even set out fresh-cut flowers. I was in an accessible room that had the right furnishings for a handicapped guest. The bed felt like magic, and my room was so clean I told the staff. There weren't any fingerprints, dirt in corners, hair from earlier guests, or strong cleaning smells. The atmosphere and employees were welcoming, and everything, including the price, felt exceptional. Five stars from me, enjoy your stay.

“We can enter your room whenever we feel necessary.” That's what the front desk clerk told me after housekeeping went into my room while I was away, even though my DND sign was on the door. I've had staff enter rooms at other hotels before, but notifying them about the privacy violation usually gets it corrected. This time, staff disrespectfully claimed they could come in whenever they wanted under a vague “health and safety” excuse. That's not acceptable. I have electronics I don't want stolen or tampered with, so I need predictable time windows to protect my belongings. I believe the claim is unlawful, especially since housekeeping had already entered the room 24 hours earlier and the DND sign was clearly displayed again. I didn't take it to management because it was the holiday season, and I didn't want a staff member fired in December. I checked out immediately and went to the Holiday Inn next door, where staff confirmed the violation of my personal privacy rights.

The breakfast was hot, tasty, and on time. It included the usual items as well as some other really good choices, and the tables were clean and nicely set. We had a quiet day and a half, parking was good, and the pool worked well for exercise. Check-in and checkout were smooth, and the employees were awesome. The room was comfortable and unbelievably clean, easily the cleanest I've seen across the many hotels and chains I've stayed in. The beds and pillows were good, the price was reasonable, and the atmosphere was friendly and well kept. It's the best hotel I've ever stayed in, easy to get to, and the manager clearly has employees who take pride in their work.

The hotel was excellent overall and seemed to meet the higher standards of this chain. It's conveniently located with lots of parking, and both the pool and hot tub were in great shape. Breakfast was typical for a Hampton Inn. I'd stay again. My main gripe is that the single-queen room was tiny, like a big-city room, which seems odd next to a cornfield in a rural area. Maybe the other room types are different. Also, the bathroom sink soap comes from a pump dispenser that's mounted too high and too far off to the side. Moving it lower or to a more useful spot would be an easy fix.
