Motel 6 Troy, OH

After 17 hours on the road, I was exhausted and stopped for gas in Troy, Ohio. The parking lot had decent-looking cars and the motel had availability, so I decided to give it a try. It was $72 for just three hours of sleep, an allergic reaction, and unexplained bites. This place felt dirty, unhealthy, and unsafe. We checked into room 122. It smelled musty, like a dirty old man, but I figured it was an old Motel 6 and just wanted to close my eyes. We didn’t even switch on the lights before getting into bed. Around 7 a.m., I got up to use the bathroom, turned on the light, and saw mold, urine, hair, dirt, dead bugs, and cobwebs. It looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in ages, and I panicked. I searched the bedding and mattresses for bedbugs but didn’t find any. Still, I have unexplained bites all over and broke out in hives because I’m extremely allergic to mold. I woke my child and said we had to leave right away. In daylight, the windows were dirty and the walkways had trash and cigarette butts everywhere.

The first time we stayed here, it was great. This visit, the night staff weren’t friendly, and the Jacuzzi suite we paid for had jets that didn’t work. There was long brown hair left by the previous guest in both the shower and tub. After drying my feet, I wiped around on a towel and saw it turn black within minutes from the dirty floor. I kept my shoes on for the rest of the stay.

We had to stay here because of a plumbing problem at home. The staff were friendly, attentive, and very accommodating. Good people and good service.

We checked in at 1:30 a.m. for a few hours of sleep. For $67, we weren’t expecting much, but we were glad the sheets were clean. There was just one washcloth and no towels, so I had to go back to the desk for more. There was no soap either. The shower was dated and not very clean. The area was noisy, though our room at the back of the hotel was away from the parking lot. The water was hot with good pressure, but the bathroom fan didn’t work, and the ceiling was peeling and the toilet sweating. Nobody told us about breakfast, if there was any. We hit the road as soon as we could and won’t be back.
