Motel 6 Tucson, AZ – Airport / Kino Sports Complex

This used to be my favorite place after the renovation, before it became a Motel 6. On my first night, two cockroaches ran off when I opened the room. A kind man at the desk apologized and moved me. I didn't spot bugs in that room, though I also didn't search for them. I checked out the next morning, then came back that evening after deciding to add another night before heading home. Once I settled in, I saw cockroaches crawling around again. I was too tired to request another room. In the morning, the man at the desk wasn't apologetic and blamed it on the City of Tucson, saying the hotel sprays weekly but the city no longer sprays the sewers. I haven't found evidence that that's true. Even if it is, there are other ways to deal with pests, and other hotels don't seem to have this problem.

At $60 a night, this was a good value. The night clerk was polite and really nice. I also didn't see any bugs or homeless people around, despite what other reviews said. The building is dated, and the appliances and towels were pretty worn, but my room was clean. There's no airport shuttle. You can walk the mile in about 20 minutes, take a $10 Uber in the morning, or drive there in around five minutes.

The location is nice, and I liked the lobby seating. When I needed a ride, they let me wait there in the AC until it arrived. There's also a very basic free breakfast. The building has been falling apart for years. You can smell mold and mustiness in the halls, and there is mold on the ceilings that they just paint over. It badly needs repairs, and changing it to a Motel 6 hasn't made it a good place to stay. They also ask for a deposit, which seems odd for a motel this poor.

I only stopped in for a quick nap, but there were roaches in my room. I called the desk to ask for my money back. I won't stay here again, for any reason.
