The pool was great for swimming laps, and the rooms were very clean. Service was excellent, and breakfast was about what you’d expect, with real eggs, boiled or scrambled. We paid $120 after taxes, which felt worth it. After a fire alarm, the owner sent a free gift. Alarms happen, so that was above expectations. Diamond members also have their deposit fee waived, which should be standard when you stay in as many hotels as we do, but still isn’t at some places. I read some negative reviews but didn’t run into any of those complaints. The photos were taken after I’d settled in. And that funny review about having to pump the coffee dispenser five times, really, that deserves one star? Give me a break. Anyone would be pleased to stay here.

My room faced the front of the building, so there was quite a bit of traffic noise. The hotel itself was clean and modern, with a comfortable bed and nice bath sheets. I stayed Monday night. I had to ask the front desk person repeatedly to speak up. I was traveling with a service animal, and he seemed to have an issue with that. I was surprised, since every other place I’ve stayed has been very accommodating.

My husband has been working there for three days with a crew, and he’s the only Black man in it. He travels for work with hard-working men who just want to talk to family, shower, get something to eat, and sleep before doing it all again. Yet wherever he goes, staff harass him. He’s repeatedly asked whether he has a room or told to leave, even though he’s there on business. He can’t sit in the lobby, have coffee, or stand outside for a smoke break without being treated like he doesn’t belong. Tonight it was Henry at Comfort Suite, 1021 N Black Stone St. How ugly and disrespectful, Henry. You have one job, but you make a person feel less than and assume a Black man can’t rent a room. I’ve had it. I hope you get it together and don’t do this to anyone else. Not cool.

Steven and Marcus were so kind and helpful. My knee is busted and swollen, so we really needed a first-floor room. They switched us over without any trouble and were very accommodating.
