The Signature Suite had a nice kitchen with plenty of storage, but no plates or silverware, which seemed odd. The front desk staff were lovely, and the tub was amazing with nice hot water. Still, the beds were squeaky and lumpy, and although the website lists in-room dining, nobody ever answered the phone. For the price, I expected a bit more. The area is pretty, but many places close after mid-afternoon on weekdays, so choices can be limited.
Our seventh-floor room looked onto a noisy alley, and the $30 overnight valet parking didn't deliver the service we'd expected. We were disappointed that the restaurant was closed for the holiday on January 1, but staff offered almost no information beyond saying the restaurant and coffee shop were shut. A nearby restaurant recommendation would've been appropriate, and I expect a printed receipt when I pay. The "Luxury Room" for our overnight stay felt smaller than expected, though it was nicely appointed. The Mayo is a beautiful, stylish historic hotel and clearly a wonderful event venue, but our experience matched the mixed reviews. We won't return.
Bill at the cafe made our stay especially memorable. He told us how the Mayo Hotel was saved from demolition and restored, shared fascinating stories about its past, and gave great local tips, including Taste of Poland, a little cafe with excellent food, and The Gathering Place. We also enjoyed picking up snacks at the cafe and taking them back to our room to eat while watching a movie. The Mayo is a Tulsa landmark, and you can feel its history as soon as you walk in. It hosted icons like Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe and JFK, and was once a gathering spot for Tulsa's oil barons during the boom years. The restoration and craftsmanship honor the past while keeping the hotel elegant and comfortable. If you value character, history and great hospitality, it's a must-stay.
Our wedding weekend at The Mayo hotel was spectacular, from arrival through Sunday checkout. The hotel team, including the event staff, 1925 restaurant and The rooftop bar, were professional and attentive, and everyone went above and beyond to help with every detail. Special thanks to Sawyer, Valeria and Walter. We had an over-the-top wedding weekend, and are very grateful.
After an hour and a half of waiting, our room still wasn’t ready and nobody could tell us when it would be. By then, the lobby and cafe were packed with other people waiting too. We’d driven two hours for dinner reservations, so we decided to find another hotel, but the front desk clerk said we couldn’t cancel and gave no explanation. Earlier, we’d handed our car to the valet. When we called for it, they said it would be there in five minutes. We stood outside in the freezing cold for 20 minutes before I learned they hadn’t sent anyone to get it. This was the worst check-in experience I’ve ever had, and the service was shameful.
