Vernals Best Value Inn

The manager is incredibly nice, and my room was clean, fairly recently updated, and inexpensive. It's an older place, so don't come expecting a poolside vacation with fruity drinks and little umbrellas. For basic, affordable lodging where you can get some sleep before exploring the area, it does the job.

The town was sold out for PhenomeCon, so I had no other choice, but this place looked like a horror movie set. It was dirty and smelled bad. At 9 a.m., while I was still in the room, the housekeeper opened the door, then walked away and left it open. Sleeping in your car might be better. I asked the front desk about washing and drying clothes and was told it would cost $3.50, but it came to $7. After the wash, my clothes still had detergent and dirt on them. They looked dirtier than before.

The four-bed, two-bath room worked perfectly for our family, and it was quiet with great AC. It was affordable, clean despite being run down, and had modern TVs, a coffee maker, full-size fridge, microwave, and assorted toiletries. Repairs and updates were clearly underway, and I look forward to staying again once they're finished. The staff were very friendly and helpful, even suggesting places to eat with our kids.

The room was just as bad as the lobby. Both had a thick, nauseating cigarette smoke smell that made the room feel stuffy and unbearable. In the lobby my eyes started watering, and I had to hold my breath to get through check-in. I couldn't imagine spending a whole night there, or even a few minutes. I asked the front desk for a refund, but they refused and insisted there was no problem. I had to leave and book another hotel, losing my money. I never got to stay, yet this was already one of my worst hotel experiences. The smoke and their lack of concern for guest comfort made the whole thing a disaster. Save yourself the headache and stay somewhere else.
