La Quinta Inn & Suites Vicksburg

The staff were helpful and friendly, but the room was below average and needs updating. There were stains, and the bathroom wasn't great, though not the worst I've seen. Then I spotted a roach coming in and out of a hole by the tub. Definitely not worth what it cost.

Our first-floor room was quiet enough for us to sleep, and the staff were friendly and helpful with what they had to work with. The location is convenient to I-20. Dinner at Billy's Italian Restaurant around the corner, in a mostly vacant outlet strip mall, was fantastic. Those were the bright spots in a rough stay at the worst La Quinta I've been to, despite having stayed at many across the country because they're pet-friendly. At check-in the room smelled musty, and the toilet seat was detached on the bathroom counter. When I reported it, the housekeeper standing with the clerk said, "I told you not to rent that room!" The clerk said there was no other room and offered a refund only if we checked out then. I borrowed a screwdriver from the housekeeper, fixed the seat myself, and washed my hands thoroughly. The carpet was disgusting, so we wouldn't walk barefoot on it. Mold spores between the window panes made it hard to see what looked like a swimming pool outside. Only the bathroom outlet worked; the others were so worn plugs fell out, and neither table lamp outlet worked. Breakfast matched the condition of the place. The coffee was watered down, and the yogurt and milk were at room temperature in a broken refrigerator. No thanks.

The bed was comfortable, the room stayed cool, and the staff were consistently smiling and helpful, which made the stay pleasant despite the problems. But the hotel is very dated. The room keys failed more than 10 times in our 12 hours there, and it was alarming that someone could get a room key without showing ID. The weak coffee and eggs sitting in water weren't great, and by 8:30 most food was gone. A strong artificial fragrance in the room triggered migraines. The carts were falling apart and held together with duct tape.

We will never stay at LaQuinta again. The carpets throughout were run down, and I can't imagine why it had so many 4- and 5-star reviews. The room smelled moldy, the blankets were stained, and there seemed to be some kind of bug infestation in the curtains. Shower water was lukewarm. The front desk reception was so-so. Even the Lyft felt like a death trap, like it could fall apart at any time. This was one of the worst hotels we've stayed in.
