The Inn at Cedar Grove

The dinner and elegant breakfast in the on-site dining room were delicious. The historic home is beautiful, with friendly staff and elegant accommodations. Each room has its own story, including cannonballs still embedded in the walls and floor from the 1863 siege. A guided tour explains more about the house. It was lovely to imagine the luxury of antebellum America while staying in Vicksburg. If you get the chance to treat yourself to a stay here, take it.

Rooms 33 and 35 were awful. Their showers were filthy, with cracked tile and mold, the floors were dirty, and the water stayed cold. Room 35 also had a door blocked by a loveseat, with a one-inch gap that let in daylight and plenty of road noise. The breakfast table had a dirty cloth, and the grounds looked like the landscaping hadn't been touched in months. We met the people from room 34, who left because their room was dirty and their sheets had hair on them. We booked rooms 33, 35, and 3 for Saturday, November 22. Room 3 had no thermostat control because it shared one with room 2. We asked to move and were given room 8 in the main house. It was okay, though the mini-fridge was plugged in with daisy-chained extension cords, which looked tacky. After 9 pm there was no one available. We called the number we were given and got no answer. It's a shame, because the property has potential, but it isn't being managed or maintained well.

The staff were very friendly, but our stay left us disappointed. The room was okay and the bed was comfortable, though it was far too hot at night and there was no thermostat to adjust it. Breakfast should be a highlight at a bed and breakfast, but ours was awful: spotty grapes, cantaloupe, biscuits, and crispy bacon, with no eggs. Bacon and biscuits without any egg dish made no sense to me. We also had to brush crumbs off the dining chairs before sitting down, and ask staff to replace silverware that had a greasy film on every piece. That felt unhealthy and concerning.

This review is specifically about outer room 2, where we stayed in November. It smelled really pungent, as if it had been closed up for decades. There were spiderwebs in every corner, spiders and mosquitoes in the room all night, and hair left in the drawers. The bubbling noise from the pool outside kept us awake, too. The cleanliness was a nightmare, and the stay was unhygienic and disappointing. A $70 motel would be much better. Photos attached.
