Orchid Tree B&B

Just a few minutes north of Hilo, in a quiet neighborhood, the Hula Suite was comfortable, clean, and nicely decorated. We could unwind in the shared seating area, read, or sit outside. There’s also a pool and hot tub, though we didn’t try either one. Getting in touch with the owners was quick and easy.

We had fresh fruit and bread for breakfast each morning, and the pool was really convenient. Steve & Su were friendly and helpful, too. The beach is an easy 3-5 minute walk, a good spot for surfers, though it’s rocky. Downtown Hilo is only an easy five-minute drive away. The room felt luxurious, with great amenities and a super comfortable bed. It was one of our favorite places to stay in Hawai'i and made for a peaceful, relaxing holiday. The whole place has a comforting, paradise-like feel.

Steve was such a kind, gracious host. We liked chatting with the other couples staying there over breakfast, with fresh fruit each morning. The private space was very nice, and the shared patio and breakfast area outdoors were beautiful, with a pool and hot tub as well. We stayed four nights for our honeymoon. There’s a surf beach within walking distance where we enjoyed watching the sunrise, and restaurants and shops are a short drive away. I’d highly recommend it.

Breakfast was delicious, with assorted fruit and baked goods, plus fresh waffles one morning. We asked Steve for sightseeing tips, what to bring, and what to steer clear of, and he was very informative. He also lent us water shoes and had snorkel gear available, though we’d brought our own. We spent a few days on the other side of the island before staying here for a few days in November 2016. Steve was a great host, and he’s lived in Hawaii since the 70s. Great B&B, would highly recommend.
