The location was the one good thing. This is an apartment, not a hotel, and getting inside was confusing because the emailed directions weren’t detailed. The place looked nothing like the photos. The beds appeared full size in the pictures, but were actually uncomfortable twins. Even the couch was more comfortable.
The room itself was really nice, but the whole visit was frustrating and kept making me late for work meetings. I had to walk around the block three times before I found the place, which is in an apartment building called Revel. Because I booked through a third party, I never got the check-in instructions others mention. I had to call the front desk to get through to the check-in office and then find my room. Getting in meant downloading an app and setting up an account for the key. The building had limited cell service, so connecting to the room to unlock the door took ages. Wi-Fi helped once I got online. In the morning, my key had been wiped and I was locked out before checkout, so I had to reset it just to get coffee. Later, I couldn’t reach anyone to store my luggage while I went to meetings, and nobody was at the front desk. The people who did help were extremely nice, but the process was difficult from start to finish.
For a one-night stay, I spent an hour waiting in their office, which had no air conditioning, just to get the move-in information. The property manager acted like I had no idea what I was doing until she realized she’d forgotten to send the email. I felt awful trying to show her my messages, only to find she never sent it. When I asked to cancel and leave, she told me to “have patience.” Then at 9 pm, the same rude woman knocked on my door asking for my ID and credit card. She took pictures of them with her personal phone, saying it was company policy. Absolutely horrible. Don’t stay here. Trust the reviews.
I bought cancellation protection through Booking.com and tried to cancel within the allowed period because of an approaching snowstorm. Booking.com repeatedly confirmed that it had sent my request to Global Luxury Suites at Capitol Hill, but GLS kept saying it had never arrived. One assistant manager acknowledged they had the wrong email address on file, which could explain the problem. Soon after, another representative denied that, contradicting the first. It left me wondering whether they didn’t know their own contact details or were changing their story to avoid the cancellation. Every conversation was exhausting. I was talked over, dismissed, and passed among four representatives who all seemed outsourced and repeated the same script. Nobody took responsibility, followed up, or gave me documentation, despite Booking.com’s confirmation. The billing department’s handling of this raises serious concerns about conflicting statements, misrepresented facts, refusal to accept third-party confirmation, and deflecting instead of resolving the issue. It gives the impression that there may be incentives not to issue refunds, even when guests paid for protection and followed the terms. This is not luxury service, and the behavior feels predatory. What should have been a simple cancellation has turned into an infuriating runaround that feels designed to avoid a refund. If you’re thinking of booking, document everything, check the cancellation rules carefully, and be ready to fight for what you’re owed. Better yet, book somewhere else. A company that acts this way before check-in shouldn’t be handling your money.
The Capitol building was about a 15-minute walk away, and the apartment was fairly new with a dishwasher. But it needed much more investment in quality. The beds were tiny, noisy, and awful. One was on wheels and shifted whenever you moved. They barely felt like beds, and it seemed like nobody cared about guests. The cabinets were half empty, details were overlooked, and basic amenities weren’t supplied. Bring your own coffee filters if you want to use their cheap coffee machine. At checkout they expected us to empty the dishwasher and leave everything as we found it. I’ve never had that requirement at any Airbnb or other place I’ve stayed. They call themselves luxury, but the service felt below Motel 6.
