Carriage House Motel Cottages & Suites

Everything was wonderful on my solo trip. The owner was so sweet, and the room was absolutely spotless. I'll definitely come back!

The room was so uncomfortable because of the smell. I stayed three nights at the start of a two-week trip, and I wouldn't bring my luggage or clothes inside because I didn't want them to stink for the rest of the trip. Febreze helped a little. Maybe the room needed serious airing out, but I don't know what caused it. I have a sensitive nose, but I've never had to leave my luggage out of a hotel room before. It was bad enough that it made every other small issue more irritating. The shower was frustrating too. The control wouldn't fully switch to shower, so much of the water came from the faucet and filled the tub. I was showering in ankle-deep water. The bathroom was clean except for a few missed spots in the toilet bowl, and the bedroom and kitchen area seemed clean. The room was sparsely decorated, but that didn't really matter to me, and it wouldn't take much to make it nicer. The kitchen area was pretty nice for a family, with a mirror over the kitchen sink that gave you what felt like two sinks, so you weren't fighting over the bathroom. I never met staff because I got an entry code by email, which was very convenient, and parking was good. It's a cute little place from the outside. The location couldn't be better, the price was very reasonable, and I could cool the room down at night without a problem. If it hadn't been for that awful smell, I don't think I'd have dwelled on the toilet or sparse decor.

The room was clean, and the shower was warm. Perfect spot for the Maine half marathon!

Dean, the manager, was so kind and helpful when he helped me book a room for my marathon. He even let us check out late so I could shower after the race. If you're doing the Maine Coast Marathon, it's a great location: the junior high school shuttle pickup and drop-off is a five-minute walk away.
